I love slab bodies, I find them to be very comfortable. The flat side provides the perfect place for me to rest my right forearm while I play. All of my favorite gigging basses have slab bodies.

Why Slab Basses? Can a tort guard save them?

Yeah, those slab basses aren't much, no serious bass player would want one. Got be be really uncomfortable, particularly for old geezers. Can you see the pain this poor fellow is in?

Oohhh......my wife loves purple. You just gave me a good excuse for a new bass.
That is one of the prettiest basses I have ever seen. I saw it on TV in a concert they did with Brooks and Dunn. I even looked up to see who built it. I can't remember now, but the price tag was over $3000. If I could spend that much on a bass, I would have one exactly like it.
I have slab AND tort...and it's my #1. I'd post a pic but I'm too old to figger that oot...but she AM purddy~

I don't know, I wouldn't eat salami that looked like most of the tort I've seen, I don't eat rotted food covered with mold and fungus colonies...
I don't have a problem with slab bodies (with the looks at least). Why do folks have new cars built to resemble vehicles 60-70 years old and pay big bucks for them? There's a coolness factor, and personally nothing wrong of trying to take an old idea and putting on a new spin or trying make it better. That's how I view high-dollar basses built like a 50's P bass. Granted, I cannot afford one, but I understand.

As far as comfort goes my basses are slung below the belt, my forearm never touches them and at 6'4" & 180 no belly conflict either.
Agree. Just got my first MIM PB for Christmas. The thing sounds and plays like a dream. I've played a few PBs that might have sounded and played a little better. But not very many. Or by that much despite the difference in price.
I don't ever think I'll get used to just how good - or just how much - this stuff has gotten over the last 20 years or so.

Besides, the proper guard is thick black solid, not tort.
Love the pics. If I wore my bass as low as Dusty I probably wouldn't mind it. I have short arms and a big belly so you do the math LOL.

I don't understand how he could play with such a long strap---- that would hurt my left wrist.
