I'd be willing to bet that I wear my basses higher than a lot of people on this board. I've been accused of being a "beatles-esque" bass player because of how I wear my instrument, but I wear them high for better fret access and ease of finding a strap (more difficult at 6'3" tall). The same is true with my guitars, lowest I've ever gone is just above the belt.

I wasn't saying I had the solution to everyone's problem with sharp edges, merely stating that a lot of people should look at their technique and other factors before dismissing an instrument. I have no preference for contoured or uncontoured; I'm just here to play the damn things.

Ok. I am 100% mystified why anyone would ever, under any circumstance, get a modern custom bass like Nash or Bluesman in the form of a slab precision. Can't we all agree that the slab precision was simply an earlier, and lamer design that was perfected when the contoured precision models came out later in the decade? Now, I fully understand the awesomeness of owning an original '52 P bass, but to pay a luthier big buck to make a reproduction of a bass that will give you carpal tunnel and tennis elbow and is uncomfortable sitting or standing makes no sense to me.
Of course along with the tonal improvements, as well as automatic boost in funkability and mojo, that accompany installing a tort guard on your bass, perhaps the tort also makes the slab bass less likely to give you repetitive stress injury?

Of all fender designs I have seen, the slab P is my favourite, followed by the later single coil version.
I do not like pick guards and wouldn't put one on a bass unless there are holes to be covered up.
So no; we can't all agree.

i have 1 of each ... contour / slab ... just depends on how much i've been eating lately to decide which to play ..!! may slab is naked = pickguard free .!

Tortoises are endangered and I don't think killing them to make your bass look better is a good idea.
