Why the hate on EHX?

I have a Small Stone Nano which I like a lot. I usually have my Yamaha TX7 plugged into it because I use it on it so often. I also have the Superego+ which is a lot of fun. I haven't had any negative experience with their products that I can remember.

My favorite thing about EHX is their continued innovation, and continue to push the envelope of acceptable sounds. QC seems to vary, but I haven't had an issue in years. Currently have a Ring Thing and a Canyon on the board. Both get into some very noisy territory but dial back / do subtle great.

I like EHX, so I am not anti-EHX at all.

I use the Ring Thing, 8 Step Sequencer, V256 Vocoder.

I have recently sold my Talking Machine and Ravish Sitar to get more MIDI orientation happening. I am probably get another 8 step sequencer.

I think the Super Pulsar, Polyphase, HOG 2, Enigma, C9, Key 9, Mod Rex, Attack Decay, Clockworks, Crash Pad, Super Space Drum are cool.

I've read that there are build quality issues, in all the ones I've owned, own or played, I have never found that problem.

My only complaint is not every pedal has MIDI or enough presets. I wish they'd incorporate MIDI ins and outs as well as 128 presets on the pedals.

I know some do have MIDI such as the HOG 2, V256, 8 Step, Mod Rex and a few more. But I think it would make better use of the abilities that a pedal has if a user could store more of their creative presets.

I've had pretty bad luck with their QC in the past, but ultimately I just don't like the way their pedals sound.

I can’t think of an EHX pedal that I don’t like.

Soul Food into a Mojomojo is something magical. The pair is under $125 new. I do prefer the regular soul food to the bass one.

Small stone is the best phaser evar...

I’ve had a few EHX pedals and thought they were fine. The Bad Stone phaser is one of my favorites.

My first EHX was the bass micro synth I got after high school in the mid '80's. It was used when I got it so I don't know the year. It changed everything. Over time every slider tab broke off and it had dents for days and I had to etch positions on the face because most of the paint was worn off. 10 years later I sold that land mine for about $500. Do the math. I bought a new one a couple years ago. So glad I did. I have a C4 and some cool midi controllers and other fancy junk. But I still spend hours just being stoopit with the BMS. It's just fun.
I love most of what I've had from EHX, I have used a few items professionally and many items personally.
But what I love most about EHX is how bat-$***-Krazy they are. Just proof that if you dunk a bunch of burnout engineers in a pool of Tang and LSD you'll end up with 90% really awesome ideas.

I've owned 4 EHX pedals. All but 1 have crapped out on me. I really want to like them, but not with the track record I've had with them.

It just worked out that way--I have considered getting one--and I have recommended some of them to others.

I'd love some of their pedals.

I agree, but my green Russian switch starting crapping out. I have to stomp on it a few times to engage it, so I bought a Sovetk Deluxe to replace it, but now the sovtek has an issue when I engage it, there is no sound for a few seconds.

Bought a Micro Synth over 20 years ago. Died with in a year.

IMHO...

EHX, in general, is a GUITAR effect pedal company, as most are. Not a huge surprise to me. Having owned a Mel9 recently, I thought it sounded great on guitar, but with tracking limitations was not really a Bass thing. It is what it is. I've owned a Bass BMPi Deluxe, SuperEgo+ and Cathedral. All can do things well and not so well, to my ear, on Bass. All have moved on in fairly short order.

Currently, I own/use one EHX pedal on Bass and find it to work very well and is going to stay on the board. This is the Canyon Delay & Looper. For me, this sorta "Swiss Army Knife" is used one blade at a time, in a single size pedal slot and sounds real good on Bass.

Sadly this QA and/or "less than robust" design choice area is the place where I think EHX suffers bit. It reminds me of Carvin gear in that regard. That said, I do like most of their pedal designs and the ones I have experience with sound very good.

I have personally never had a "materials and workmanship" type of issue with anything from EHX. I just either liked what it was doing for me or I didn't. World of options...move on! I do use a tap switch to cut down on kicking the crap out of the pedal and operate it in a switchable EFX loop. So, again not tapdancing allover it all the time. I expect good mileage, your results may differ.

Small Stone, 1, DrQ, 2, DrQ used for 20+ years with electric trumpet, no filter was better in band pass. This is the old EH, before a light fixture appeared on the Dr. Q. The later batches were not the same. I had original Clone Theory and Attack Equalizer and Frequency Analyzer! I actually liked the splatty digital sounding overdrive on the Bass Blogger, but that just stopped working. (I also had a Keeley compressor stop working so even the best can fail) Now one of my favorite combinations is Oceans 11 on shimmer in the send/return of a SuperEgo (basic model or plus). Also a phasor is nice there, it's the Only place an EQD Rainbow Machine really shines (in the loop of a Superego) Attack Decay is a recent favorite, into a Prunes and Custard (a tuned midrange envelope with drive) and you have a great analog synth sound.
