Why Why Why (J-bass question)

I learned on a 1965 Fender Precision bass, then got a Jazz bass because it was easier to play ... that was 40 years ago. Getting back into it again after all these years I cant seem to find a good jazz bass that doesnt cost $6000. Got a Schecter C4 for $400 instead, Its louder, lighter and feels the same... Im lovin it ....

I'm a P-Bass guy myself. I own a Jazz, but I almost never play it. I too find it thin sounding. Also, the J pickups don't have the same output. I just feel more comfortable playing a P-bass. Maybe one day I'll wake up and decide I like my J-bass better...

My take on the whole J bass/P bass thing is this

P-BASS ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!....lol

If a see another fusion geek taking a long weedly needly, "hey look at the chops ive got", solo on a jazz bass...im gonna strangle someone!!!...hahaha. PASS THE COFFEE!!!!

So, it's okay if he does it on a P-Bass?

EDIT: The list of influences in your profile suggests that you aren't opposed to bassists being musicians just like every other instrumentalist in a band. Why would you post what you just did?

it was a tongue in cheek comment......

Fusion guys tend to play jazz or jazz style basses as it enables them to articulate intricate harmonic solos by virtue of the clarity of the back pickup, But thats soloing. To me it sounds way too thin. I'm over it, the whole flashy solo thing...make a musical statement or shut the hell up as far as im concerned

For actually "bass" I much prefer the P bass. It, like the MM SR, has way more sonic personality for my individual taste than a jazz bass.

I like them but if I have to choose between a J or a P I'll take the P bass. In fact I own 4 Ricks, 2 Gibsons and 1 Fender and no J bass, I would like one though.

You're stepping on the toes of a LOT of guitarists, sax players and keyboardists there :D

There was a time I happened to own several great basses but no jazz type bass. When I tried to record I always felt that I am lacking that famous jazz bass tone, that bridge pickup bite. Then I bought one jazz after another and always got out the right frequencies for my recordings.
I had a ten years break when I didn't play at all. A few years ago I started to play again. Bought some really nice and expensive gear and tried to get the basses that really give me the best possible sound. I made some test recording with all the basses I could find and guess what? I have 7 jazz basses today. That makes half of my collection. And almost every time I have to pick the bass for the recording it ends with picking a Jazz. They just sound right. :)
