They turned that bass into a guitar. My guess is Shaq was trying to learn to play guitar but anything smaller than a bass was just not big enough. Like most, he gave up shortly after the lack of instant gratification...

I've had a long day and I'm still not getting it...are folks poking fun at Bass VI's? Everything else is stock except for that humbucker...

I'm with you - I don't think it'd be that hard to restore. I've never played one, but I think Bass VI's look cool.

OTOH that Precision bass that A-Step-Towards posted... holy mother of goat! I think the seller forgot to add a decimal point somewhere in the asking price.

I remember playing one of those when I was a kid - it was hanging at American Dream Music in downtown San Diego back in ... 1978? 79?

I was impossible to play - I immediately understood why Fender didn't keep producing it. It just wan't a great idea.

But now it's "vintage". I guess that means my old 1974 Gremlin is vintage too, right?

Thats easy to restore. Now this bass makes you hold back the vomit, you would also be buying it from the guy who butchered it and thinks its worth 5k still.

No it wasn't. It's a Fender Bass VI. The only thing not stock is the Gibson EB-3 humbucker. Invalid Link Removed. They're awesome. Look 'em up.

I'm the first who really noticed what this is about. Someone had that old MIJ Fender VI Reissue and saw that the more contemporary model looks like this:

So he tried to stay on par with the cool guys... Or the original was just a cheap Squier Bass VI and he wanted it to look like the more expensive Pawnshop Bass VI...who knows.

I know and I feel pretty much the same way-- to me it's a question of kindergarten math. Do you have polepieces as magnets? Yes? Ok, so how many polepieces do you have? Now, how many strings do you have? Is that more or fewer strings than you have polepieces? No? Do you think there might not be a problem with that?
