WHYYYYY

What exactly does the GK possess that you are looking to emulate? (i.e. - grindy mids, fat bottom, clean high end?) I'd imagine some decent tweak time with a good EQ pedal could get you in the ballpark. Should be easier than trying to emulate an all-tube amp IME.

I'm talking about that super-growly tone, all the way in up through the milder dirt sounds.
So, I guess I am imagining a given range of their tone from mildly-driven, to reasonable overdrive.

I DO NOT, however, want a pedal that could only cop the totally over the top and silly distortion tones. Think about the intro to "Around the World" by RHCP. NOT the GK tone I would be looking for.

However, it appears I'm the only person alive who desires this. lol.

frankly i think a large part of it is that if you want the GK sound, you use a GK amp, which are fairly inexpensive, plentiful and of a manageable size and weight. The success of things like the VT bass and other "warmer/tube/svt/b15/bassman" pres is based on the fact that none of this is true (traditionally at least) for that style of amplifier.

Which brings me to my question: whats wrong with a GK amp? I see 700rbIIs all over craigslist and the classifieds here for like $350.

I would like a pedal that removed the GK character from a GK amp. Then I could use the backline in the LA rehearsal spaces and get a sound I like. :)

Ouch, that's harsh :)
Plenty of preamps to choose from, which would remove a lot of the GK character when bypassing the preamp. So, there are such pedals! ;)

Hey your backline could be worse! It could be that unreliable ticking time bomb SVT7P... ooops :ninja:

j/k :D

Yeah, sorry. :) I don't mind the GK sound, sometimes it can be great. But with bad cabinets and rooms, it easily becomes a loud boomy clicky mess that the onboard eq can't fix. The other day I was only able to get a halfway decent sound by turning the bass all the way down, low mids almost all the way down at 8:00.

I've been out-harshed! :hmm: :bassist: :D :bawl:
Sadly, I kind of feel the same way about it. I think I'll be leaving the 7Pro and the ShuttleMax in the same rack for a long time.
Hey, at least this one made it through the first gig. The last one didn't... :(

Just messing around ofc :hyper:
I do agree though, too bad about SVT7PRO, such a great sounding head...

WHY is there no "character pedal" that is designed to evoke the GK sound? :( I would die for such a thing...

Other than the "Diesel Dawg"...I'm not interested in a distortion-only unit.

OK, maybe its just me, but if you want the GK sound, why not just use a GK head? I had a 1001 and liked it, but ultimately sold it because I wanted a different sound. Now I use Genz Benz - so why would I want a GK pedal to make my GB sound like a GK?
