Double Bass Wich are the best E and A strings with GUT G, D?

anyone try perpetual EA?

I just put some old Artones on top of Perpetual E/A. The perps have been on for about three months and I was playing SBW dirty guts with them before that.

The balance feels pretty good and I love the sound of the gut strings but it’s still early days.

The Artones haven’t stabilized yet but, wow, are they are loud and beautiful pizzicato. The horrible screeches when I try to bow them on the other hand...

Reviving this thread to see what else the talkbass community is using under their guts. I’ve been enjoying spiro weichs for the playability, but often think about what else is out there… maybe
Spiro solos- never tried em, maybe not as much umph as weich?
Evah weich again- found them not as easy as S weich at the higher height on another bass, but would give more low end acoustically- but mybe don’t amp as well..
Animas- were nice, but.. fragile and unavailable

Any more insight?? Evah slaps, perps, SF solos, I guess it’s all a compromise, but is there any thing that comes to mind? Playability, matching w gut, amps well..

I'm strictly arco, so this may not help, but I have plain gut Goetz GDA, and had a Jargar Forte E/C. The Jargar was pretty old and tired, so over the holidays I changed it for a Jazzer E/C. The Jazzer doesn't have depth of the Jargar, but is pretty close and bows very easily.

I used to like Dominant solos under plain gut G/D. Low tension, very clear on my dark bass. Otherwise SF solos I like for their big, round tone, Spiro solos are cool but you lose some fundamental and they are darker than what you would think. I used to use Garbo E/A but they chewed up my fingerboard. Sensicore E/A can match but they have a lot of sustain (especially the solos). Flexocore solos feel really nice and are almost all fundamental but too dark for me.

I like a gut A with my gut D and G - currently a copper-wrapped Gamut medium, but I may put my plain Gamut A back on. If I could justify breaking up a set of Temperas, I would use that E ... but right now I can't, so I use a Spiro weich for E.
Yes, I also have at present plain gut D and G and silver wrapped Gamut A with Perpetual E - mainly just for a stable tuning reference, but it’s a really great E string. Not quite as good as Eudoxa E but very close IMO
