Wilkinson Tuners

I have been looking at replacement tuners (vintage fender style), and I see that Wilkinson are much cheaper than Fender, Schaller, or Hipshot.

The Wilkinson are about $40 a set, while the others are around $80... Anyone have experience with Wilkinson and another brand, that could shed some light on why they are half the price as the the rest of the competition.

Thanks,
Dan C.

I have purchased Wilkinson tuners for two project basses I did. These are really fantastic tuners for the money. I like these tuners because they offer the long stem very much like the Fender reverse tuners did. They hold tune very good and look fantastic. I purchased these on Ebay for $20.00 a set.

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

This seems to have quite a bit of info.

Thanks for that.

Actually, a slightly better page (which took a bit of hunting) is [Invalid or Expired Link Removed], which lists products and retail prices in GBP, but doesn't give dimensions, gear ratio, or a hint about whether they're made in the UK, China, Freedonia or wherever.

Maybe not having much of a web site is how they keep costs down (only half kidding on that).

I picked up a set of black 2x2 Wilkinsons for my custom Clement for $25. I bought 'em second-hand from a fellow TBer but they were actually still new in the package. I had them shipped to Tom for installation and I like them just fine.

They hold tune very well and they're very smooth. I cant comment on the weight factor because my neck and fingerboard are pretty heavy woods anyway (5 piece bubinga, wenge and walnut neck with a coco bolo fingerboard). In spite of that, the bass balances well and I dont get much neck dive so I guess they cant weigh TOO much!!

I wouldnt have a problem using them again-thats for sure!

Hi, old post, I know, but how has the black finish fared please? Has it worn off anywhere at all..? Cheers!

Two of my basses came with Wilkinson Tuners and have no issues.
One of these also has Wilkinson pups and controls and also has no issues.

Oooops, zombie thread.....
