So I purchased a bass off eBay and have been obsessively watching the shipment but it's been "stuck" in Jersey City for the past 3 days. Now I've never put a lot of stock in the USPS tracking status as some packages track the status all the way to my door and while others miraculously show up where the tracking still has it sitting on a dock somewhere. It's supposed to be arriving today in Minnesota but I'm not holding my breath.

So, will it show up or not?

With the way the weather has been out east, I'm just hoping it will be sometime before Summer!

Sorry, bro. When I was shipping for a local store, we'd get burned by bad weather every now and then, especially when we were waiting to receive shipments. Usually it adds a couple of days to the travel time. It's impossible to say how long, because so much depends on how long the weather stays bad.

Woohoo! My obsessive refresh of the USPS tracking status screen finally paid off! It's closer than I thought!

Problem now is it will likely arrive tomorrow while my wife is home..."Honey? What's that big box the mailman just dropped off?" Gulp.

My motto for using USPS is "...when you absolutely, positively don't care whether it gets there or not." I've had $1000 worth of merchandise disappear into the USPS back room for six months, then appear one day covered in dust. Clearly it fell off a belt somewhere and sat around for months until someone spotted it. (To be fair, that happened some years ago.) I guess is would be hard for that to happen to something as large as a bass...right?

But ship a bass USPS? Not gonna happen, except in the rare case where I ship overseas and it's half the price of other options. I also find that USPS tracking numbers are universally useless - I think I've had a grand total of ONE USPS tracking number that ever worked.

OTOH, FedEx Ground tracking numbers always work, are always accurate, and the price is normally better than any other option - especially since I got smart and opened a FedEx account. I seldom use it, but it provides a discount when I do. FedEx is my first choice, UPS second. USPS is my shipper of last resort.
