Will Lee w/Hiram Bullock - Live

I know the majority of bassists in the US and the western world probably know who Will Lee is for obvious reasons. He's as prolific now with Fab Faux and his Youtube channel as he was being on TV every night.

But I just stumbled on this club gig with Hiram Bullock in 1997, arguably in the prime of the CBS Orchestra. Let's just say Will is as much a monster on a raw club gig as he is on TV or on a polished record. Incredible!

And then there's Hiram! I'd LOVE to have seen these guys live.

I cannot imagine going into bar and seeing musicians that good! Will Lee and Hiram Bullock had deep connection. They had been playing together since college and it showed. I will also say that I have never seen someone use many chops as Will Lee did in the twenty-three or minutes I have watched without cluttering the sound or hogging the spotlight.

What struck me - and I've been a fan of Will Lee as long as I can remember - is just how "over the top" he was, yet perfectly appropriate for the music and the gig. Chops galore, but never at the expense of the song. And just having a grand old time doing it. He's obviously not gonna do this on a Fab Faux gig, but on a club date with his best friend, why not?

And Clint de Ganon is just a machine. Perfect groove at all times and really allowing Hiram and Will to ham it up. Set One (posted yesterday) has some fantastic drum solos, as well.

Her name is Katreese Barnes. She's all over the first set (second video posted yesterday) on sax and vocals, but she wasn't on the second set. Lots of fabulous 4-part harmonies. She was also somewhat famous for a certain Saturday Night Live song "D*** In a Box".

Yeah... I just turned 44 myself. Energy isn't my problem (plenty of that), but I'm envious of his groove, fluidity, creativity, and presence. As I pointed out to my son, his theatrics are never a detriment to the groove.

He'll be 70 this year and he still has it!

I'm not certain about the original question ...HOWEVER,
I do remember one time David confessed during one of his monologs that he had gotten arrested for shoplifting. He was caught at Kmart trying to switch price tags on some socks.
