Then we should more properly describe the medical condition by its full name of alopecia areata. It is an autoimmune disease that can cause hair loss from any part of your body, or all of your body. I think most of us understood that this is what is meant in this case.

The insult was directed at a woman, not a man. In my life experience, most woman have a lot of vanity compared to men. Also, for the female population would be a lot lower than 80%.
Oh BS. You think mocking baldness isn't embarrassing for a man? If bald jokes were a justifiable excuse for assault, the world would have an epidemic of brutality.

Alopecia areata is not easy on men, either. Imagine you're in your 30's and your hair begins to fall out in large patches, then your beard does the same. Then every hair on your body falls out including your eyebrows and eyelashes, arm and leg hair.
I have known both men and women who have it and it's not been easy for any of them. My husband has it.
I started balding when I was 24 and got made fun of for it, and it sucked, but it has to be far more offensive/upsetting/embarrassing for a woman, for whom it’s far more rare. Either way, it’s not an excuse to slap someone.

. I just watched an extended version and now I'm not even so sure. Chris Rock looked genuinely rattled. If that wasn't real, that was some beyond excellent acting on his part. I feel bad for the guy. He supposedly got bullied a lot as a kid...

I don't watch award shows and care very little about what goes on, but there are two aspects that do have a personal connection for me. One is the alopecia aspect, which I've just mentioned. The other is the idea that performers on a stage are vulnerable to assault and that people will actually defend that behavior based on the content of the performance.
As musicians, that should concern us. I've been threatened with physical assault on a stage in front of an audience before, to the point where I almost had to use my headstock as a weapon, and very recently have had someone enter my personal workspace on stage to grab a microphone on two occasions. I find the casual excusing of this kind of behavior a bit disturbing. Even if Smith had just taken the mic and told Rock to cut it out, it would be problematic to me from that standpoint.
I don't think they talk about slap on that side.
No attempt to block because he expected Smith was going to speak to him, not hit him. You generally turn to face someone who is going to talk with you, don't you? Gosh aren't we all quick to see a conspiracy everywhere?
People are allowed to express their thoughts about the news of the day. The fact that one or two things are awful, or perhaps more awful, doesn't mean we should accept this behavior.

It seems to me thet most people are either somewhat amused by this, or else mildly disgusted.
People think Alec Baldwin intentionally murdered someone. I don’t think anyone’s outraged about Will Smith. They just find this interesting.
