Ricky Gervais Pitches His Own Jada Pinkett Smith Oscar Joke
When asked about the Jada Pinkett Smith jab that provoked the actor (“G.I. Jane 2—can’t wait to see it”), Gervais dismissed it during a recent Twitter live, calling Rock’s line, “like, the tamest joke I would’ve ever have told.” The comedian then insisted that Smith wouldn’t have become violent if he had been onstage. “Nothing would happen to me because I wouldn’t have told a joke about his wife’s hair. I’d have told a joke about her boyfriend,” Gervais said. (The Smiths have spoken openly about Pinkett Smith’s “entanglement” with musician August Alsina during a time when the couple was amicably split.)
In the slap’s aftermath, many pointed out that Pinkett Smith suffers from alopecia, a condition that causes hair loss. Gervais shrugged off the autoimmune disorder’s severity. “Someone said it was joking about her disability,” he said on Twitter. “Well, I’m going a bit thin, so I’m disabled. That means that I can park right up next to Tesco’s now. And I’m fat. That’s a disease. I’m fat and balding. I should get f'n benefit.”
Gervais previously tweeted his hypothetical Oscar monologue ahead of the ceremony. “I’d start with ‘Hello. I hope this show helps cheer up the ordinary people watching at home,” he wrote. “If you’re unemployed for example, take some comfort in the fact that even if you had a job, your salary probably wouldn’t be as much as the goody bag all the actors have just been given.’” Gervais continued, “I’m proud to announce that this is the most diverse and progressive Oscars ever. Looking out I see people from all walks of life. Every demographic under the sun. Except poor people, obviously. F' them.”

Ricky's funny, but that joke idea ain't exactly original--co-host Regina Hall made a joke about the Smiths' open marriage earlier in the ceremony, it just got overshadowed by what happened later.
And I wouldn't call Jada's condition a disability by any means, but as has been pointed out in this thread MANY times, the form of alopecia she has is different than standard pattern baldness.

Why did you have to post that? My day was going so well, and now this.
Because this one really rankles. I could not possibly care less about what any celebrities do in their private life. But I REALLY HATE this belief that very rich people should NEVER face ANY consequences for their actions, including assault and battery. And it turns out Will Smith can't even use the 'defending his wife' excuse.
And he's got a new movie out now. No consequences.
Dude has lost respect on a massive level and he has certainly hurt brand. Those are two things that have been very valuable to him. More to the point, Chris Rock did not press charges. That took the legal system out of the picture. Chris Rock got his revenge in a very mean comedy special that also made him a ton of money.
I saw the last couple of Jada Pinkett stories. If I were Smith, I would divorce her and give her a good settlement on the grounds she never comes within 500 meters of me again and no longer discusses me in the media. Then we she could spend her time daydreaming and fantasizing about Tupac.

All this openness on Jada's part is supposedly enlightened, healthy and mature, but in this case it comes across as immature, self-serving and downright cruel. Will is so successful and seems so confident...I'm surprised he let himself get played like that.
Jada seems to have made a career out of making Will look like her b****. AFAIK, she hasn't done anything of note in her acting career since the "Matrix" movies.
I think she is jealous of his career.
