Will this harm my cab?

Our guitar/bass/drums trio plays a regular gig that’s low volume. My Mesa 112 is plenty:

But sometimes it seems like the drummer doesn’t hear the bass very well, so when recently played a larger, semi-outdoor medium volume gig I brought my second 112 and turned it toward the drummer (on the bottom in photo). He was very appreciative:

So finally here’s the question: We’re back to the low volume gig this weekend. Can I use my Revsound 1x8 for the “drum monitor”, or am I risking overloading it? If that could be a problem I’ll just bring the second 112 again, but the 1x8 is so much lighter and more compact!

Whether or not it's gonna do the job better than the 12", I dunno...

but I don't see how a low-volume gig would hurt it,

at least considering how those Revsounds are spoken of here on TB.

Assuming the Rev is an 8 ohm cab I'm sure it will be fine

Since the power to the two cabinets will be the same because they are parallel connected (assuming the 8” cab is 8 ohms) the volume of each cab will depend on their sensitivity.

At low frequencies, the 8” cabinet will almost certainly have a lower sensitivity (by roughly 3dB best case but probably closer to 5-6dB) as well as lower (real world) power handling. Combine this with the 800 watts at 4 ohm rating of the amp and unless you are pretty careful you could inadvertently damage the 8” cab. I would suggest sticking with 2 x 112’s, that will be pretty bulletproof and have better low frequency support for the drummer.

With that amp, I'd be careful. As long as it's truly low volume you'll probably be ok.
That Bass Block 800 has a "shipload" of power.

IF it were me, I'd carry both 112's and leave the Single 8 for the front room. I find it comforting my intuition matched the advice of the designer of your cabinets. You can take what HE said to the bank.

As a general rule you probably don't to cut corners on speakers when you are dealing with 800 watts.

Aren't they both 8ohms?

If you can run two 8ohm 12s, you can run two 8ohm anything.

The only problem is that your 8" cab is turned away from you, and you can't hear it dying

There you go. It's not heavy anyway, and at least you'll have an idea of what the one turned away from you is doing, based off the same cab pointing toward you.

You know, you could buy a longer speaker cable, and actually set the other one up as a monitor for him. Right next to him.

I can't find the impedence of the revsound cab, so if it's a 4-ohm cab then it's a NO, using that cab paired with the 1x12 will take the amp below its minimum impedance capability.

Assuming it's an 8-ohm cab though, if you're using the BB800, you're taking chances with the 1x8. The BB800 is very powerful and at max power it would be sending 400 watts to it. The revsound website says the cab is rated for 175 watts, so it's pretty easy to blow the speaker in the revsound. I wouldn't be as concerned if it was rated for something like 375 watts, but 175 is too far off for me to be comfortable.

Both cabs are 8 ohms. But I fully get that the 1x8 isn’t right for this job. Even though I wouldn’t get near full power with the amp, no point trying it.
