...keep up with a loud guitarist playing through a 120W 5150? How is this rig anyways? Been looking for a good tube tone lately, will this rig give me what I need?

Not sure of the wattage or tubes the silverfaces use but i think it will hang. I use mostly 2X15's with an ampeg svt cl and hang with my guitarist. he uses a marshal jvm tube head with 4X12's. i don't even crank it. I still have room for volume even if he went to a full stack I bet

Given that your guitarist is using a 5150, I'm guessing you play metal or hardcore of some sort. If that is true, a vintage Bassman/2x15 setup is not what you want. You can do way better for $800ish. Look for a used Ampeg SVT810. Run a SansAmp VT into a Peavey IPR1600 to power it, and you'll probably end up with more tone, more volume, and less weight than that rig for right around the same price.

That's way too much money to spend on an old Fender Bassman. As mentioned before, you can do alot better looking in the classifieds.

In a word, Not a chance in hell! Sorry.

To keep up with a guitar player you'll need five to ten times his power and the speakers to handle that. A 40W amp won't do it.

Yeah, this is pretty much a guitar amp. Get an Ampeg 810 with a GK head, maybe an 800rb or something. You can find 810's for under 600, I saw one for 200.
