So I'm going to ask the dumbest of all dumb questions, but semi-serious

Does the lightwave respond better to white nylon tapes than black nylon tapes? I just have this picture of the photoelectronics failing to detect a surface that doesn't reflect light...

I'm curious myself too, but I'm a nerd engineer so that's to be expected.

I wonder if they don't detect reflected light that is seen as movement, but he sensor detects the change in light level as the string moves, versus the amount of light detected when the string is still.

I think the sensor reads the shadow cast by the IR emitter.

That said, I have bronze phosphor stings on one and they are so bright they almost sound like they are overdriving the preamp sometimes.

I was gong to try a set of black nylon tapes on my custom fretless 5 but I got such an awesome sound from the LTFs on it in rehearsal yesterday I don't want to mess with it. A little tweaking of the mid boost and it was getting near my Wal's tone

So I just left the Wilcox shop, and what a wonderful experience! They set my bass up for free, threw in a strap and sold me a new gig bag for $40!
Apparently my bass is from 2004, and is made in America. I’m super stoked!​
