So I'm going to ask the dumbest of all dumb questions, but semi-serious :)

Does the lightwave respond better to white nylon tapes than black nylon tapes? I just have this picture of the photoelectronics failing to detect a surface that doesn't reflect light...

I'm curious myself too, but I'm a nerd engineer so that's to be expected.

I wonder if they don't detect reflected light that is seen as movement, but he sensor detects the change in light level as the string moves, versus the amount of light detected when the string is still.

I think the sensor reads the shadow cast by the IR emitter.

That said, I have bronze phosphor stings on one and they are so bright they almost sound like they are overdriving the preamp sometimes.
