Winter 2017 build off- carbon headless bass

I took a closer look of the clearcoated bass. Well...it looks great! Colour changes from black to cf weave 3d-grey to black when I rotate the bass under lights. Better than what it looked yesterday (maybe it was my old goggles or clear mist in the air). Blackburst is looking good too. I was afraid that maybe opaque black would make too sharp edges for the burst. That did not happen. Transition from black to cf weave is gradual with some transparency.
I'll let the clear harden until Tuesday. Only light wetsand with 2500 before Abralon 4000 and buffing is needed. I'm going to buff the body and leave the neck unbuffed.

I blacked the brass headpiece with Birchwood Casey Brass Black..

And I didn't have the nerves to wait until Tuesday. Body is wet sanded and buffed.

I'm hoping to get the bass finished on Tuesday.

Pretty much finished. As you can see the decal is not on yet. I would have like to put it under the clearcoat but because I used spray can clearcoat I would have needed another can of clear. The decal is going to be laminated with mylar shield layer and hence needs no clearcoat over it. I will put it on once it arrives.
I might make another pivot plate as I'm not 100% satisfied with the feel of this one. The balance of the bass is great, it's just that it hangs a bit too far from my belly. It's easy to change and test different rear contours on pivot plates however. Other than these things I'm very pleased with the bass. Sounds good and plays well. I just played an hour and I really like the sound I can get out of it.

Both pickups on about 90%, treble half way and bass at minimum from the Stingray preamp. Strings are not brand new, they have been played a few weeks in another bass.

And looks like this. I try to get better pics tomorrow. It's getting dark tonight already. Hopefully tomorrow is clear day.

That is technically the most sophisticated build ive ever seen on TB. You could probably make some good money building these on a small output business basis if you had any interest, or even just restoring and repairing original Steinbergers, very few people have your skills with these materials. Hugely impressive start to finish. I look forward to watching more builds from you, thanks for sharing this one.
