I have to be careful not to thin the cover too much as it leaves the nut, or the truss rod channels will show. While I like your idea, it'll have to be wider toward the nut.
In the mean time, I strung it up.
I'll have to make a new saddle. I don't know what I was thinking when I filed the string slots - should have strung it up first. The B and G strings are a little to close to the edges of the fingerboard.
This is also a good idea if I understand you correctly. So the TRC would be like a removable inlay. I like it.
Mmmm.....Potted Piiiickup......drool....Thanks! I can still put a veneer over the headstock, but that doesn't solve the truss rod cover issue. Originally, I thought of using the scraps from the figured walnut for the veneer, but just like there's laminates poking out beyond the fingerboard extension, I thought it would pull the bass together if there's laminates poking out above the truss rod cover.
I'll have to put some more thought into it.

I don't really play fretless, but it feels pretty good. It's a tad heavy - I don't want to weight it yet.
Made a new saddle with proper string spacing.
The anchors are a tad too big, but those were the smallest ones I could find. We'll make due.
And one final mockup before I disassemble for final sanding and clear.

Nit picky, but - the saddle looks too white against everything else. Is that just because there’s still paper on it?

Yep, TRC as a removable inlay. Maybe get crafty with magnet attachment so no screws. That would be slick.

No matter how much of it you you do, I don’t think the sanding is ever done.

I wouldn't worry about that unless you're installing piezos in it.
BTW, have you considered carving the neck down a little more closer to the cut-away. That would remove some more weight and make it nicer to play.
