I decided I'd back up two steps and saw it closer to the line before routing. It was going reasonably well until I broke the bandsaw blade. Looks like it lost a tooth and then the crack propagated across from there. Oh well.

Not any more than I was already damaging it.
No, no harm done. The blade has so little momentum that when it loses tension and the pulley stops driving it, it pretty much just stops instantly. Or at least that's how it's always worked out for me. But if anybody has thrilling tales of bandsaw blade failure carnage, chime in.
That lousy looking joint at the red arrow bugs me. It was inside one of the planks and was revealed when I planed that surface. That happened in several places. The flooring was glued up in three layers, and it looks like they were not too concerned about the strips in the lower two layers being square, so there are a fair number of voids like that. Which is totally fine for a floor, but kind of annoying here. When I get it to the finishing stage I'll have to think about trying to fill those with epoxy or something.
The blue arrow is one of the joints I made. It came out pretty well. They didn't all, but I won't show you the ugly ones.
I like to set expectations low. Starting with recycled flooring and fried mice, there's nowhere to go but up.
But seriously, one of my favourite things about this forum is seeing how people save their projects when things go wrong. So the more mistakes I make, the more saves you get to see.
I've come to the firm belief that the best builders are just really good at hiding mistakes. It makes me feel better when I see seasoned veteran builders dealing with the same problems and mistakes I make. I think we all do it, it's just a matter of how we handle it that counts. Guitar building is the greatest metaphor for life.

I measure my mistakes in feet, as in, how far away you have to be before you don’t see it anymore.
I used to be in railway modelling, and people always mentioned the three foot rule: if it looks good from three feet away, it's good.
Three feet away in HO train Guage is like 100 yards in real life.... I once had a VW camper that looked good from that far away
I was an N gauge fan as well. Three feet is like being in the next town over!
So I guess technically 3 feet at N gauge would be 480 feet. Or 146 meters to the rest of the world.
