Winter Build Off 2022 - Renewal/Rebirth

Is it this one? Winter Build Off 2022 - Get Ready If it is, I think that would be a scratch build.

Otherwise what you're describing above sounds like either a Partial Build or if they are both in an already partially built state, then it would be an Assembly Build. Mine above is an assembly build but both the body and the neck are incomplete and need to be heavily modified and worked in order to become a bass. :thumbsup:

It's another one, saw it lying around today and thought it would be a good fit for the theme as a project (also has some funny stories in it about valuable lessons in Bass building). Though the wood pile will become a Bass too ;)Then'll go with Assembly for the half build one. For the scratch build I still have to come up with a good rebirth idea. Suggestions welcome *cough* *cough*

I'm a long time lurker, I think this is probably my first post but thinking of entering. Is it OK to ask questions here before entering?
Mainly do you have to have all of the hardware in your starting pic and would this be an assembly or partial build? I started it many years ago but life got in the way as it does.

You don't need any of the hardware in your wood pile picture because we presume that most of the hardware is purchased anyway. We just want to make sure that nobody starts early (not that we really care, but rules are rules).

Beej is on the west coast so he might not even see your question for a few hours. Sit tight until he figures which category you should enter

My opinion:
  • It's not a full scratch build, since you've already done some shaping.
  • It's not an assembly build, as you still have quite a bit of woodworking to do.
  • As long as your lowest string meets the 0.084 gauge minimum standard, then this would be a partial build.

My build was started prior to this post. It is a scratch build. I have pictures of the wood for the body but not with the Renewal All Over Again writing in the picture and I have pictures of the neck build underway showing the woods but not a seperate picture of the wood prior to working on it. Can this fit in a category?

I think I'd agree that logically, this would probably best fit under Partial Build, so that seems to be a sort of consensus? :D

The goal has always been to put a few parameters in place to guide entries and make something a bit more coordinated than nothing, but at the same time, since the first prize is bragging rights, we probably don't need to get too uppity about the whole shebang. :woot:

This also sounds like it would probably be best classified as a Partial Build - you are the builder, no question, and you built it from scratch, no question. But since it's already underway and needs lots of completion, its more like a Partial build.

As I said earlier, (and I've already eaten these words once :smug: ) there is honour in all of the categories! :woot:

Frankly, I really just want to see what you're building. :D
