A project that has lingered in my head for a while was a SPEED BASS. Something that is infinitely easy to play fast, be it slappity Mark King style or ripping fingerstyle stuff. Granted, I'm not that good at playing it myself, but having one that allows for it is no problem, if you ask me.
Shorter scale, lighter strings, ergonomic, fast neck, etc. So that's what I'm choosing to do.
This will be a SCRATCH BUILD.
The majority of woods I'll be using for the body were sourced from a guy I know locally who has fallen trees in his yard. He actually cuts them up and uses them for his projects, but is happy to hand me whatever he doesn't use, or they get burned. So basically, I'll be using what could have been firewood and "rebirthing it" into a bass.
Pickups and preamp are leftovers from a parts box buy I got a couple years back. Not sure if they are being "reborn" in any way, but they were gathering dust.
And I will likely be coming up with more detailed plans after the holiday, but figured I needed to throw my hat in the ring now with the basics of stuff.
Here's the possible supplies (not using it all, but it is available for use):
