Winter build off 2025 : Adam

Greetings fellow bass players and builders.
I have decided to join the fun with my latest build.
I didn't think it could fit the brief but it will have 2 knobs, so I think that counts.
The bass name is after my son. And I intend to build a guitar or bass for each of my children and call them the inheritance series.

The body is black limba.
The top is quilted red wood.
The neck is walnut.
The fret board is yet to be sourced.
The body is based off an ibanez design.
For the neck I'd like to design my own headstock.
It will have around 21 frets, 34 inch scale with 4 strings.
I will be sourcing the pick up, bridge and pots this week.
Build category : scratch build.

The motivation for this build was hearing planet earth by duran duran on the radio. And John Taylor is one of my favourite bass players.
Looking forward to posting updates.
Jeff

Today I got the pickups, bridge and tuners. Initially I was thinking about silver hardware, but changed my mind to black. I love the bridge and tuners. Next step, neck template. I have also settled on the headstock design i like. Thankfully I have a day off work tomorrow and a free Saturday.

Love that fretboard. I hesitate to give this feedback because it's too late now but, it would have been really cool if that big eye were on the 12th fret. As it is, I think its the 13th if I'm counting right (I'm viewing this on my phone, its entirely possible I'm miscounting). Plus, I don't know if the board was long enough to lay it out like that. Either way it looks great, spectacular piece of wood.

A little more progress, I've shaped the neck with a shinto rasp and dragon file, glued the top together, and wet the neck to raise the grain. This week I hope to glue the top to the body. Wetting the neck has really showed how the neck will look finished, really enjoyed shaping the neck.
