Yes they can - but the chances of failure are far less than potential wireless problems. If cables are tested and the plugs solid, that’s what I’d go with

If you get a solid wireless unit (like the Shure Digital), it’s as solid as using a cable. I’ve had mine for about 10 years without a single issue.

There’s no doubt that wireless has improved over the years but it isn’t nor will ever be as reliable as hard wired.
