Wireless

Hey, I don't want to start a new thread on this so I'll just bump it. I have an AKG GuitarBug wireless system and it sucks a big fat one, despite it's cuteness. I'm looking for something more like a professional would use--I've looked into the X2 but I'm still a bit doubtful, especially if it's only available with a plastic housing and a straight plug. I'm a rocker, I'm sliding across the stage and jumping off the drum riser and laying in people's laps who are a good distance from the stage (ideally--not with the GuitarBug). Would the rackmount X2 be the best way to go? I've heard Sennheiser makes the ultimate wireless, but their Website seems to only cover microphones.

Sennheiser EW172 G2 rackmount system is what you need

I disagree - to my ears, the X2 sounds better for bass than either the EW172, or the SLX14 by Shure - and will still be working like a champ, long after the DTV changeover...

The X2 does sound great. Don't worry so much about the plastic housing - it seems plenty strong (so long as you don't throw it under a bus). You can, and should, replace the cable, so you don't have to use a straight plug.

+++ONE

i ordered one from bayou cables, the stock cable is junk.

the 1/8 HAS to be in the perfect spot. and i tend to 'move' around a lot, lol.

If you're thinking of buying the XDS95 check out Musician's Friend's "Stupid Deal Of The Day" today (January 15). It's on sale for $199.99 today only, limited to stock on hand.

I have no affiliation with Musician's Friend or X2, other than being a happy X2 owner.

I knew I shouldn't have opened this forum when I got up. MF is like a drug to me. Just ordered.

So the first audition of the X2 XDS95 went like so:
Plugged the floor pedal-styled XDR1 receiver through my usual Livewire cable into the Ashdown LG1000 near the rear corner, stage right;
Plugged the XD1 transmitter into the Warwick $$;
Put bass into passive mode;
Walked off the stage while playing along with the keyboardist, only 20 people in the audience and on the stage for choir rehearsal, various objects, lecterns, drums, keyboards blocking the line of site;
Got past the lower level before noticing the lag between the notes I played and what I heard, but when I noticed the distance realized it was not the system but, well, the distance :) ;
Also noticed as I stepped into the balcony the lows began to disappear, but my fingernail scrapes came through loud and clear, so maximum range was approximately 200 feet;
Walked back to around the 15th row on the lower level, suddenly the sound was full again, meaning maximum effective range was about 125 to 150 feet;
No dropouts at all;
Reminded me of what my basses sound like when I use my Planet Waves cables which I love to plug into my guitars (to each his own);
My basses sound that way through the Sennheiser 1000 Digital, too (wonder why? ;) );
Problem is, I prefer the way my basses sound straight through the Livewire cables!
Caveat: When I put the $$ into active mode, it was sonic bliss!!! I had to back off the volume. I proved they can definitely hear me in the audience, there is a huge cancellation node on the stage preventing the choir from hearing me without extra monitors, and I don't have to remain tethered to one spot anymore.

One more vote for X2 especially because of the musicians friend sale making them reasonble.

FWIW... Distance doesn't matter for a wireless signal, especially digital like the X2.. any changes in tone/sound/volume/delay are specifically due to acoustics. Wireless = roughly speed of light.

I know I went for the cheaper one at first, but I have to say skip the cheapest one, you want the external antennas.
