Wiring difficulty with Bill Lawrence EB60-PC

blpick.jpg

I have purchased this pickup some time ago. It is a Bill Lawrence USA EB60-PC (Split P bass style) in case no one read the title. There were no wiring diagrams with this pick up nor is there any information for this pick up on the internet aside from ebay, and that is just an auction page. I have contacted the selling party and "BL USA" for wiring info. It has been 6 days.

If the pick up had only one wire from each it would be a no brainer. This pick up has 2 (white and red) from one half and one (black) from the other half. I am not sure if I should wire both white and red together or cap one off for series wiring or wiring one with the ground...

I hope the picture offers some help.

I prefer concrete answers rather than trail and error. I would like to know what the company has intended for the pick up to be used to it's fullest capacity. I am just wanting to know about this pick up's full capabilities and wiring options.

:help:

Thanks, guys!

I found this on another forum:

First question... Why do I have 3 wires coming from the pickup? Surely it's not active as it wasn't advertised as such.. I'll check the wiring diagram.. Oops.. There ain't one in the box.. Time for trial and error with the soldering iron..
I discovered the red cable worked best soldered to the rear of the tone control as an earth..
Black and white wires as per normal set-up for a P-Bass..
Back on with scratch plate and strings and time for a test...
What can I say? It's clear, powerful with tone to spare.. The bass thumps and the treble sings.. It makes the stock MIM pickup sound like an under-water fart.. I now have turbo P-Bass!!
Was it worth £32 + £12.31 customs surcharge? You bet..
I now have a bass sound I'll be happy to record our next album with.. I can't wait til next weeks gig though.. That's gonna be a BELTER!!!
As a recap...
Bass 9/10 (I'm trying to be objective here.. It's 10/10 for me!!)
Mids 7/10
Treble 8/10
This pickup has got classic P-Bass tones in spades.. For a 'Punk Rock' player like me it's got JJ Burnell and Matt Freeman as well as Dee Dee... It's also capable of a nice clean tone that would suit Reggae and Soul.. I'm very happy with what it's done for a Standard MIM Fender P-Bass.. Well worth a go!!
Bargy Bass..

Hope it helps...

Thanks for your amazing reply! This pick-up is insane!!! I put it in an old Japanese Aria Pro II RSB. What a monster! The old pick up was quite loud but this one had more clarity.

I got it for $50 USD on the internet. Less than a DiMarzio and as good with different tone. I will get a few more for other projects!

Cheers!

Thanks for the info...I got one of those, too... but I haven't wired it up yet.

I've used Bill Lawrence guitar pickups before and have always found them to be EXACTLY what I wanted... not fundamentally different than stock, just a lot MORE of everything. Darn good pickups!

I'd advise anyone interested in Bill Lawrence pickups to get the 'Wilde 'USA' brand as you get excellent service IME. 'Bill Lawrence USA' is just Bill's old business partner leeching on Bills name as well as designs and equipment Bill left behind in the mid 80s.

So this pickup has two wires that get sent to ground then?

Yes... just as it was in my Aria Pro RSB series (1983). The pick-up wiring is identical since the original Aria Pro pick-up had the same wiring and similar structure. I went with that and the information above when he said something like "wire the white (ground) and black (output) wires as normal". This should be series wiring.
