Wiring error

I bought a used Squier P-Bass planning to replace the wiring as a project. I bought a P-Bass wiring kit, a roll of shielding tape, and attempted to do good things.

Instead, I ended up with two volume knobs. Both knobs act as volume knobs, and I now lack a tone knob. This is a problem, but I have no idea what I've done wrong. Has anyone here made this mistake?

Hard to tell without seeing a picture of your wiring job.
Here is a very good wiring diagram to compare what you have. Check everything carefully and go from there.

It sounds like your capacitor is shorted, so you're just decreasing the output impedance when rolling the tone down.

Thanks for the diagram! That looks nothing like what I've done. I'm going to pull it apart and try it that way with a new capacitor.
