Wiring Issue

I am trying to install a Seymour Duncan Antiquity II Jazz Bridge pup into an Ibanez GAXB150 (2004 Indonesia model) and have been experiencing technical difficulties. I am an amateur luthier and not very tech-savvy. I de-fretted and refinished the bass and wanted to change out the pickup.
For those of you not familiar with this model, the way the GAX is routed accomodates a single soapbar pickup connected to one volume knob and a Gibson-style 3-way toggle switch (and an output jack, of course). I installed the Duncan pup today according to the most relevant schematics I could find (and a little bit of trial-and-error). I do NOT have the owner's manual with me anymore (since I did not originally intend to modify the bass at all).
ANYWAY... forgive my rambling
The pickup DOES, in a way, work...but does not pick up the vibrations of the strings. However, it does respond when I touch the poles, but with incessant humming (in B#) that sounds like a vuvuzela.

So, therefore, I ask the following questions:
1. Is it possible to install a jazz bridge pup ALONE in a bass, or does it need to be paired up with a neck pup or P pup in order to work?

2. Does anyone have a schematic for this model, or can give me pointers on the wiring?

Please don't make fun of me, I know noting about wiring and very little about pickups.

1. Sure.
I had an Antiquity II bridge pickup only on my Jazz bass before I added a P pickup in the neck position later on.

There is no reason to have two pickups unless you want two pickups.

2. I can draw, or link you to diagrams for whatever you need, just describe the setup.

Have you checked the DC resistance of the coil to be sure that there is no short?

What picture?

All I see is the Seymour Duncan diagram for a VT setup.

If you want a 3 way switch and volume, you can use this diagram and skip the tone.

I believe you simply need to reverse the wires from the pickup.

That shouldn't matter.

The Antiquity II pickups are not shielded.
Also, with only one pickup, the phase does not matter.

That shouldn't matter.

The Antiquity II pickups are not shielded.

Aha....I thought maybe he'd connected + to shield. If he's shorted + and - he'd get nothing at all, so I'm stumped. Sounds like a defective pup to me.
