Wiring on knobs and Pickups

Took apart my bass after two trips to the shop in the same day and have decided to fix it up myself. Would it be best to rewire everything? What type of wire should I buy? Or should I replace everything (pickups, volume pots [?], and knobs?)s Want to use this bass as a learning too for bass electronics and what not and to keep it alive as long as I am. The right course of action depends on the type and extent of the problems, faults or issues. Say what they are and 'best' will present itself. Right now it's a guessing game.

Get those pics up. Clear pics of which wires are going where. And give us more detail, and folks will jump in to help out. Until then there's little we can do.

I know you're pretty new to the forum, and that you're still getting the hang of things around here, but you'll get it and eventually you'll have fixed your bass.

What bass? What are the original parts?
FWIW, I find 18-22GA multistrand wire more than adequate for a rewire within an instrument. Keep the wires just long enough to allow for one or maybe two fixes on termination. It's a 'service loop' in the wiring biz.
As for the switches and jack, get the best quality ones from the jump--Switchcraft, etc...
Pots--these are usually chosen for their value and taper first, then find the body size and shaft length for where they are mounted and then whether they are solid or splined shaft based on your knob choice.

I'd probably wire up what you have and see if it works. A multimeter will allow you to test individual parts and figure out if pots or pickups are bad.

Is this a Squier PJ? I've found that regular pots don't wanna fit in there, I'd stick with minis. Up to you on values; those usually come with 500k, but I prefer a 250k.

+1 on switchcraft Jack, worth the price of admission.

the cheap thin wire is just fine, but I find vintage cloth push back wire more pleasant/easier to work with.
