Wiring resistor to compressor input

...if 4.7k is too mild, what might be more suitable?
A resistance equal to the one that's already there would cut your input in half - I'd say that'd be a good place to start.

I haven't looked at the schematic, but I'd be afraid that could change the way the circuit works (is there a high input impedance buffer after the resistor that's already there?); else you could replace the one that's there with one that's half the value, then add another - for a total resistance that's the same as it was. That might be the safest bet.

I think the unfortunate thing we're learning here is that the only way to determine the value needed is through experimentation- and our poor protagonist just wanted to hand the box to a guy he knows and say "solder the resistor here". :hmm:

Opivy, I'd say just pick one, have the guy solder it in the place I described, and hope for the best. The only other option I see is if you bring your bass and amp with you, and bring the soldering guy a 6-pack and a pizza, and convince him to spend the afternoon with you experimenting with different R values.
