Wisdom Tooth

Yeah, I don't know about that.
I had a consultation before having all four of mine removed. I asked him about my options about Novocaine (or whatever) vs getting knocked out. His reply was something like "there's really no need for you to be there" I agreed.

Went in, went nighty night. Woke up, went home.
Doctors are smaaaaaat peoples.

Back when I got my wisdom teeth pulled, they found a 5th wisdom tooth after they x-rayed me. It was wedged way up in the roof of my mouth a little towards the back of my top jaw, which is really wierd. Funny thing though, they knocked me out, removed my four (as well as yanked out the one wedged far back into my jaw), and I bled for only about 10 minutes and never felt a single bit of pain/soreness. I guess I lucked out: everyone else I've talked to says that the bleeding went on for days, as well as the soreness.

For me, I got it done when I was 16 (I'm 18 now). What age did a lot of you get your wisdom teeth taken out?

First one was impacted and developed an abscess the size of a tennis ball overnight. Went to the dentist, they started working on it - trouble is, the abscess was blocking the blood flow to the nerves so the *nine* ampules of novacaine they shot into my jaw did nothing. I felt the whole thing ...

Next three were a lot easier.

They did all 4 of mine when I was like 28, 5 hours in his chair, a trip on the gourney for X-rays when he thought he broke my jaw. Then the surgeon gave me a ride home, cause my ride was 20 minutes away. He stopped at the pharmacy and BOUGHT my pain meds. Said, you may feel alright now, but wait till the anistetic wears off. I did, and called him for a shot first thing the next morning. Was off work for 3 days, but I did have a rather cute neighbor nurse taking care of me so I may have been in pain but I had ulterior motives too.:smug:

I had 4 wisdom teeth out at once. The dentist wanted to do it in two visits, but I told him to just do it all at once and get it over with. I remember them starting an IV, and the dentist told me to count down from 10. I got to about 5, and he told me to stop. Then he did something to the IV, and I got a weird, buzzy feeling...I must have been grinning like a loon, because he laughed and said "Yeah, that's good stuff, huh?" Then he had me count again...I got to about 8, and the next thing I remember is the nurse shaking me and saying really loudly, "It's time to wake up!"

I wrote a note asking if it'd be okay to go to judo later that day. He laughed again and said "If you feel like it!" I went home, puked, and slept for 14 hours.

I have a little vicodin, but I'll probably end up not using all of it. I usually get sick of it after the fourth or fifth. (the next day usually)

Just hope he's not one of those bare minimum chords only guitarist then. I would want my dentist/guitarist to be pretty efficient and rehearsed in the ways of technical dentistry and fretboard magic.

My brother and I had all 4 each out 3 (maybe) days ago. Still hurts. They said the bleeding would stop right away, some slight discomfort... LIES! 5 hours of agony later and still bleeding like a pig. I don't know what's wrong with me but that was agony. Just some obnoxious soreness now, nothing major.

If it's still bleeding, take a tea bag, moisten it and bite down on it. The tanic acid will help stop the bleeding. If it continues, call your dentist.

I held off going to the dentist for 12 years. In that 12 years I gave up snuff and started drinking cherry coke like an alcoholic. I went to the dentist, he told me everything that needed done, and I said cool, let's do it. Then I realized that I had no vacation left so all the work had to happen within that week, since I was already off for that week, and he went ahead and did it all in 3 days. The fillings were on day 1, the root canal was day 2, and the wisdom teeth were on day 3. For the next 2 weeks I cringed at the sight of anything hot or cold. If it wasn't room temperature it wasn't going in my mouth. One time I bit down on something and it literally felt like my tooth had been struck by lightening. I was in tears.
