I played (drums, though) at church this morning too, and I brought along my little teardrop acoustic mandolin I recently got from Wish. The lead guitarist tuned it right up and starting playing it like a pro and tried to buy it from me on the spot! He just couldn't believe Wish sold it for $100 - even with the funky finish. It sounded really good too, and projected very well, even outside the church where we were standing around after loading our gear. I may make a fan out of him yet ...
I learned what little upright technique I have from a friend who played in the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and also played with us on Sunday mornings. His 'cheap' bass was worth over $30k and his 'good' bass was well over $120k.

I promised 3StringPete (some time ago) some pix of the persimmon 5-string Lobe (#962) I bought a while back. In spite of losing my camera, home remodeling disarray and other horrors, I finally got some shots taken of it yesterday on a borrowed camera! (By the way, the only thing I have done to this bass is cut out the scallop just below the string-thru holes.) This bass is very, very resonant for some reason and has a very kool tone. Can you imagine what this is going to look like once it is refinished? It's going to be insane!

Thanks for posting! It's definitely one of the coolest Wishbasses I've seen.
I'm currently finishing a Mando Bass....carved top, all mahogany. Photos will be posted once I'm done.

Did Wish include a scallop originally (one of his hole saw creations)? Your addition/modification looks wonderful...really enhances the look of the bass and goes well with the shape of the lower cutaway!! Nice work!
Pete; Glad you got to see these pix finally. I've been tempted to make this into an "Arrow" model, but just not sure what I would run into since this one is more of a sandwich wood-wise. Perhaps I will do the Arrow treatment to the other Lobe I have

I have just recently discovered these basses. Incredible looking basses. I am waiting for one to show up on eBay so I can snag it. I have PM'd with several of you on questions about them. I truly appreciate all your thoughts and help in answering my questions. These look incredible. I hope to soon own one myself.
BillyB; No, on this bass there was no cut-out at all. However, I've seen him go either way on these, although his cut-outs are rounder since I think he uses a power tool (hole saw) to cut/shape them, whereas I use a 'hand powered' coping saw and lots of rasping. He tends to put the cut-outs on the Arrow variation, but not so much on the standard Lobes (lately, anyway). My cut-out on this bass still has to be blended a little more, but if I refine it too much (now) it will be out of charactor with the rest of the bass until I get time to refinish it. Thanks for the kudos ...

Wow, that was freaky - I looked for the Peanut, never saw it, but got the Stude instead and just assumed you got the names mixed up (sorry). Instead, the Peanut sold so fast it never got viewed by very many of us. Boy, that was fast!

Yeah, it confused me too. Being "less familiar" with Wishbasses I simply reported the name that was in the auction. Then I went back and looked and it had changed !
It took a second of checking completed auctions to figured out what had REALLY happened !

No problem. I was thinking that these were about $100 less than they normally sell for, and I know you guys love Wishbasses. I'd love to try one sometime, but I just can't get with the shape. I'm too "old school" I guess. I like the idea of a big fat neck though, as I have CTS and larger necks seem to help quite a bit.

I "wish" someone had a Wishbass around here that I knew so I could check it out. I like the idea of one with a lipstick pickup for some reason. Maybe I'm just a freak.
I wish (no pun intended) Steve would put up more Peanuts. I love the Stude shape but find it uncondusive to playing while seated unless you have a strap on it - the lower body contour shoves the whole thing back too much and I find myself compensating for that all the while during any play time on one. I've owned 2 Studes now and ergonomically they don't seem to be my favorite shape (even my newest Stude does that, but to a lesser degree), but aesthetically, that's another story! The Peanut, on the other hand plants itself just right, standing or seated. There's something for everyone, obviously! (that's why you can't own just oneYeah, it confused me too. ...And you are correct, Steve lowered his starting price by $100 after the economy tanked. How do you build one of these for those prices! Man .......
