If there is a significant gap between the yardstick and fingerboard especially between the 1st position and 15th position, you may have an issue with neck bow (very uncommon with Wishbasses but possible if your neck is thinner than most). If this is the case, you will need to find strings with less tension (i.e. Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flats) or send it back to Wish for repair/replacement. Wish claims that he's only had 2 Wishbasses returned for neck problems.

I would not install a standard metal bridge. It's not going to affect neck bow, if that's the case.

If your strings are simply going out of tune without an increase in action, then your strings need to "settle in" or be replaced.

StandUpRight; The only time I have noticed my strings going out of tune a lot was when they are new. I always swap out the rounds for something else (flats!) and there is that adjustment period the strings go through as they stretch. Also, depending on the climate of your area, your guitar could be settling in due to changes in humidity, etc. I live in New Mexico where it is extremely dry and I always pick up a few cracks/separations on my Wishes after they have been here a a while. So far I have caught those during the refinishing phase and just filled them in and so-on. None have ever been a problem structurally, just cosmetic. Too, perhaps your neck is settling a bit still.

One thing that is always good to do no matter what else you may/may not do to your Wishbass is re-level the fingerboard (after the guitar has acclamated to your climate). This is not difficult and can easily be performed without effecting the finish of the body or neck, since it gets oiled with something much different than what you would use on the rest. I have re-leveled four (4) so far, and every one of them needed attention to some degree once I got into it. It makes a big difference on how your bass will play and sound. (I found various dips and inconsistencies in all my FBs that needed to be sanded out.) Once you know the FB is really good and level, you can go to work on the bridge (and nut too, sometimes) and 'whittle' it down to lower your action. Heck, if you screw the bridge up, you can always get another from Wish - he's really good about that. I know, because I screwed one up royally a while back and he sent me 2 replacements in a flash (I used an SASE though).

Perhaps 3StringPete could comment on this issue since he knows Wish and his work personally and has been to his shop, etc.

Anyway, that's exciting about you gigging your Wish - we can imagine the facials!!!

TBr's; I just bid on and won the Scarab 4 stringer (#168) - gulp! The auction ended after midnight which worked in my favor since I was able to stay up and manage it. Still not sure what woods are used in the body, but it will be fun finding out! Now I get to see up close what an earlier Wish looks/feels like. - News @ 11:00 ... Wish on!

Gubna; The seller told me in an earlier email that the FB is jatoba, but he failed to say what the body was made out of. It is the same front and back though. Neck is two purplehearts, maple and mahogany. This fellow has not been too talkative about it, so I know little else. I paid for it already so hopefully he will ship tomorrow. He's not too far away from me so I predict a 4 day turn-around. The auction also promises a gig bag and strap, which for $212 shipped, is a great deal! I'm very pleased!

By the way, ash Hyper #808 is up for bid (the one I wanted all along), so I may be selling my spalted maple Hyper to fund it. My Hyper is the one in my avatar. Any interest?

I did look at that Hyper myself. I think the one Wish I have is enough, but I'd consider a 5er with a Kent Armstrong at some point, maybe. I am looking forward to see if Wish puts up any more of those "leftovers" striped basses.

Actually looking at those pics I posted of my old one, I kinda wish I kept it and refinished it.

Fellow Wish Fanatics: Well, it's official now. I bought the ash Hyper #808 (I have been trying to track down since April) off Ebay just now. So, I can't afford to keep my other Hyper and it will have to go to fund this new one. This is the one I have pictured in this forum before and shows up as my avatar. I still haven't decided whether or not to swap out the Varitone control and brass cover plate, but I am thinking I will and return it to stock, (except of course, my refinish & releveling job). If anyone might be interested in this Hyper prior to my listing it on Ebay (2 weeks?), please PM me. I think I am at the end of my accquistion stage for these guitars and will just look forward to refinishing all of them as time goes by. Thanks ...

Well the economy hasn't been helping the building business but things happen. No I can't say my designs were inspired by him but we both seem to have the same opinion of painting basses. I like natural wood.

3StringPete: You asked me a while back for pix of my new Lobe. I don't have Photobucket completely up to speed yet and too much time is going by so I just decided to download these thumbnails. The spalted maple center can be seen between the persimmon front and back. One thing I discovered tonight is that Wish took a crack at radiusing this neck. Only problem is that on the low B side, he created a pretty big dip in the FB. I can fit 2 credit cards under my level in the middle of the neck (but only under this string). I kind of freaked out when I first discovered it, but after looking at it closely, if I remove the nut I can relevel the fingerboard and straighten this problem out (I hope!). I do have 2 different radius sanding blocks so it shouldn't be too big a deal to land on a suitable radius ... Whew!

Good Morning: Well, Ash Hyper 808 arrived last night via DHL! As promised, it came in a modified Gator case with an unopened set of half wounds. Since I have been wanting this one since first seeing it up for auction back in April, it was pretty fun finally getting my mitts on it. This bass did not disappoint! Although it is totally unmodified (that's a good thing) and needing the usual finish help, it plays very nicely even with the stock rounds on it. I did notice a couple of buzz zones on 2 of the strings, so I did a quickie fingerboard leveling job on it while I had the strings off (for a change to flats). I only spent about 40 minutes sanding out the FB, taking it out to 800 grit. I then oiled the board and put on some GHS flats. It plays really nicely, has a good amount of mmwah factor to it, even with the GHS' (I think these strings are too heavy and I may try some D'Addario Chromes later, or the half wounds it came with) and I couldn't be happier! For some reason, I just love the simplicity of the ash wood look; it's grain pattern and the dark FB, (Wish just emailed me that the FB is wenge). I think it really sets off the body shape of the Hyper style. I was a little surprised to learn that both of my Hypers are not the same shape really. They are close, but seem to be cut from slightly different patterns. (I couldn't get my spalted maple Hyper to fit into the Gator case because the upper horn is further away from the neck than this new one. I found that interesting.) Apparently Wish does not have a set distance he places his PUs either, as the PU on this one is noticably closer to the bridge. - See, one more argument in favor of owning more than one of these guitars! Anyway, just wanted to share my good news. Catch you all later ...

he also had an X-style wishbass with the added LEDs too.

i think he is buying em, adding a few small bits (the other one had a compensated wooden bridge) adding the LEDs, and the trying to turn a profit.

the X-one lasted for several weeks on ebay before selling for $750, so maybe he just doesn't realize that it's unlikely to sell a WB for close to $1K no matter how many lights you stick on it...
