With equal wattage, which amps are the loudest?

I was having a power crisis recently when faced with an outdoor gig. 2-12" Avatar speakers driven by my Yorkville Bassmaster 400 wasn't cutting it once the lead guitard bought a 4 x 12 extension cabinet.
I went to GC and tried the following: 4x10 Avatar, 4 x 10 GK, 1x15+2x10 (same cab, major brand, forgot which) and a 4X10 Mark bass which was obviously louder even at 8ohms. I bought it. Problem solved.
PS: My amp has a tube preamp and when turned up gets much louder.

....But... it's one louder.
Why not make ten louder and turn it up to ten?....
Look - this one goes up to eleven.
And what (IIRC) tony iommi said: "Nah, I'm not worried - mine go up to thirteen!"
