My favourite bass was "forced"(!!!!) upon me by my wonderful man, who likes it also coz of another reason too which I'm not going to go into

My wife is very supportive of me. She plays acoustic guitar too but strangely, and whilst being a musician, she is totally alien to GAS. When I get a new bass, she feigns excitement but I can tell she cannot muster any interest in a plank of wood with strings on it.

Now, shoes on the other hand are a different story.

My wife's favorite color is blue, so it is probably no coincidence that my two Fenders are Blue Agave and Electron Blue. The Blue Agave is a fretless that I had on layaway and she paid the last $100 as a Father's Day gift.

My daughter is responsible for naming my basses. The fretless is "Christina" after her and the other is "Sapphire".

My Girlfriend bought me my '92 Rickenbacker 4003 & my '89 MIK Squier Precision twice (see thread my girlfriend does it again ).

So neither bass will ever leave my ownership,My two children aged 5 & 10 have a go on them from time to time so one day they will own them.

No, not because of a girlfriend. But I held on to a lawsuit Ibanez Les Paul copy because my boyfriend liked to play it.

Jordasch reply - I knew the one person keeping TB from being a total manfest would pop up.

That was a dangerous response, you could have really dug yourself a hole there. Of course, you may have already known she was a woman.

I showed her picture of a Lakland Decade (with a sort of hint hint gleam in my eyes) and she said "I don't like that thing there". "That thing there" turned out to be the pickguard. Doesn't matter if it's Fender, MM, whatever, she says pickguards make a bass look cheap. It's no use arguing about it - she won't listen to reason.

Moral of story: No Lakland Decade for me.

My son has called "dibs" on my candy apple red Mustang bass and I have both pink paisley and blue floral p-bass reissues that my daughters (9&7) have claimed as theirs. I can never sell them because of this. Fortunately, I really like all three of them (basses, as well as the kids!).

My oldest son could care less about playing bass... he's a drummer. My other kids prefer my guitars.

Got my daughter (11) a SX 3/4 jazz a couple of months ago and have her taking lessons with my instructor. She (daughter) wants to be a singer, but I pointed out to her at a concert we were at the lead singers were all playin' an instrument as well as singing. (its been hard to have here keep her focus on practice) She has already laid claim to my Cirrus 5 and my Jazz 70's, and wants me to build her a special bass just for her.
My legacy will continue...

Heh, my oldest daughter loves all my basses but would'nt dare try to play one, you know with the mall fingernail jobs she gets done every other week.

August 17, 2001 I was a g*%tard. On the 18th, my girlfriend presented me with a bass that she and about 10 other friends got me for my birthday. I didn't even know how it was tuned!
Skip forward almost 8 years: the guitar sits --barely used -- on her stand, that original bass is now surrounded by an '86 Tobias 5 string and an upright. My daughter -- 2years old on the 17th -- LOVES to play the "baaaa" and often grabs a seat on the couch and tells me to grab the bow and play for her.

The girlfriend responsible for this has been gone now for almost 6 years!

So yes: the loved ones in my life have been "instrumental" (OUCH!... ) in my playing music.

Has anyone here ever bought, sold, or kept a bass around because your wife, girlfriend/s, kids, dog? Liked it, didn't like it, hated it, loved it, jealous of it?

I had a 7 string once that my girlfriend at the time would keep commenting that she thought was hideous, she was like "what happened to the cute blue one?" I didn't get rid of it(at least not then) but I did keep it out of her eyesight, anybody experience similar or worse?

When I traded the Ibanez SR505 I got for my Fender GL, my significant other commented that "that black bass doesn't look as nice as the wooden one you traded for it"...

I spent hours explaining what difference string spacing, neck feel and the noisy electronics made in my decision.

I used to be strictly a Ric guy. Never even looked at other basses. Until my wife got me a MIA Highway One Fender Jazz Bass. I really love her.

My first amp was a Peavey TKO. I bought it with my T-40 and at one point I lent it to my brother because he got a keyboard. After a couple of weeks, I asked for it back:

"Oh, uh... I'm sorry, but I sold that amp for a bag of weed"

I have a White Jazz that its pretty much not allowed to get rid of since my wife picked it up for me.

I was up for trading it once and I got smack down saying no...

In hind sight I'm glad she did not let me get rid of it.

My girlfriend loved my Pedulla, which is why I ended up keeping it a lot longer than I really wanted to. I eventually sold it, but I made sure it was ok before I did haha. She's really a fan of rosewood boards, which I am not, so for the most part she doesn't really like my basses.

When I got my used/abused 05 AV 64 P my wife's first comment was "you traded for that?!?"

And when I got my most recent bass, an Ibanez EDB555 5 string, it was "that looks really nice"
