Wives, girlfriends, kids and basses!

My Much Better Half picked out a "Barely Used" Music Man S.U.B. Sterling for me as a gift because she knew I didn't have one but would never get a full-on model as it's not *my* tone... but she knew I wanted to have something approximating one in my collection. She chose it because of the unique finish that she dug, not knowing it was the rare "Cinnamon" finish that was the last S.U.B. finish sprayed before they halted production and that mine is 1 out of only 100.

To a point, she's down with my basses and likes the vast majority of them. :D

YOU sir, are a very lucky guy!!! I was told by a girl once that she hated my bass because it was like "the other woman".

I once bought a Modulus on ebay because the girl i wanted to date said it was beautiful. I don't have it anymore but I did end up with the best girlfriend ever. Oddly enough, she doesn't like my current fav bass because of the color( Trans red DeArmond SF), but loves the tone so I guess I win all around.

2002 my then girlfriend now the Mrs pyrohr bought me a Fender MIA 75RI CAR SE after I told her I saw the prettiest jazz bass! I started to play it in the store and she just came out and asked me if I wanted it!!! That bass will be with me till the end! She also later bought me a GK 1001RB 2x10 combo! I still have that too! :D Then she bought me a Boss GT6B! still got that too! Damn I love my wife!!!!!!!!!!!:D

When I got my fretless Sterling my girlfriend asked "What happened to that black one you had? I kinda liked that one." then she gave me that upset face. Well it's funny because the 'black one' was a crap pbass deluxe that she had no connection to other she had seen me play it before... I found it pretty funny!

I had my Stingray up for sale here for a few weeks to try to help pay off some of our debt (wouldn't have scratched the debt...), but my wife said many times she did not want me to sell it (she plays a little bit of bass on occasion). I did decide not to and now I am glad. When she was not even yet my girlfriend, she and her friend took a trip to Brooklyn to put a downpayment on a Chapman Stick for me. Eventually decided the stick wasn't for me but I did take lessons for a sort time and really did give it a go. My kids have a kid sized guitar and bass that I encourage them to play as much as I can, but they don't (yet...they're still little). It's funny, that mini bass they have (a stew mac kit from over 20 years ago, acquired in a trade with TB'er Bryanonbass when we were both in high school, just under 20 years ago) is the one I'vwe had the longest. It has taught 3 different kids how to play now and hopefully will start my grandkids out right (a LONG time from now!!!).

My current #1,.....my wife actually picked out...

Trabenfront1.jpg

I went in to my local Mom and Pop store to buy some drum stuff for my son....she beat me to the bass room and when i walked in she siad i like this one...it's very pretty.....

i had been looking at Traben on line and thought the bridge was too cheesy for me, but when i took it off the wall and plugged it in....wow I was hooked.....put it on lay-a-way that day and paid it off a few weeks later....

so short answer Yes!

If my wife doesn't like the way it "looks", I begin the dislike the instrument as a whole. I buy basses that I don't need and in my mind this is my way of including her to a pointless purchase.

That's why I sold my two clear translucent basses, only to replace them with better more expensive ones. :)

hahaha that is so cute!

good thing she doesn't know about mic'ing the drums yet :ninja:

Love this response - but - maybe that's coz I'm a wimmin! (Caillean means "a lassie" in Gaelic - Scottish of course!)

My favourite bass was "forced"(!!!!) upon me by my wonderful man, who likes it also coz of another reason too which I'm not going to go into :hiding:

I'm not so keen on his silly electric cello though - does that make me a hypocrite?!?!?! But - in my favour - it is really silly!:hyper:
