Double Bass Wizzy 112p + preamp good rig?

I haven't found anything about this in my searching, so I thought I'd ask.

Does anyone have any experience using the EA Powered Wizzy 112P with their favorite preamp? I've got a Summit TD-100 I use with my Berg IP310, but I need a smaller rig for the EUB gigs. I'd like to utilize the Summit with a powered speaker if that would work well. (And no, I don't have enough money to buy another IP!:bawl:)

Scott, it might make an awesome rig. I was thinking about getting one to pair up with my iAMP-200 C Wizzy combo for a while.

But I actually kinda got talked out of it. The reasoning was -- for a comparable price (roughly), I could have gotten a Micro 300 and a Wizzy 10 or Wizzy 12. More flexibility. Could operate as a stand-alone rig or in combination with my combo. So I never tried the powered Wizzy.

I ended up spending nearly twice as much and taking a completely different route in the end. Bought an AI Focus 2R and a Wizzy M-line.

But just food for thought.

I wouldn't suggest the powered Wizzy even if it still were in production. As Steve mentions (and I believe I was part of his decision), the old powered Wizzy just doesn't make financial sense given the other options today. The standalone unit is 200w and can only power itself, no external speaker can be added. A Wizzy cab and a tiny 300w Micro 300 can be had for about the same bucks, for more power and the ability to drive another cab.

Yup, you remembered correctly. ;)

[RAVE] And I appreciate your candor. After this exchange, I really felt like you were looking out for my best interests. You could have just as easily sold me the powered Wizzy, made your cut and been done with it. [/RAVE]
