Won't It Look Good? --- TORT Question

I was looking at these pixs of a couple of basses I currently have:::

This (^) will get a TORT PG to match the twins - but won't it look killer in TORT too?

The 'other' R-H has a TORT PG, and I hope I can order one for this Black/Rosewood bass too.

Personally i'd leave the black p/j the way it is. It looks sick like that. With a tort guard it would just look like the other black basses.... But if you dont like variety thats your buisness not mine:P just throwin my opinion out there, not trying to start a discussion.

I just ordered Tort for my Candy Cola P from Ebay. Yeah I could have done a cream or white perloid but I have one on my Sterling.
Is it overdone? Sure but there aren't that many multicolor options. Fender is all about the retro look anyway, imagine putting spinning rims on a 57 Chevy?

I kind of agree with the cheap thing... I love tort but it's got to be the real stuff not the fake that looks all dark or really red. The real stuff has the yellow spots in it and apparently comes from Italy (not making this up).. The squier stuff also looks fake but it's not all dark like some of the Mim/mij stuff, not that it looks any more real.

How about pics of what you consider to be real tort? (obviously not real turtle stuff, but the best, most accurate looking tort pickguard material). How about the stock Fender tort guards used on US Fenders, do you consider that "real"?

Actually the flash on the camera shifts the tone and tint of the tort to more of an orange-red color, and believe me that the tort looks real-ish with the requisite yellow spots and variety in the browns mixed with subtle darker brown and a hint of tiny black flecks through it.

I don't think the tort can really be appreciated unless in person, as the camera will make it look cheap, flat and detail-less by it's very poor digital attempt to capture the nuances of the colors.

Maybe it's like a uniform to me - uniform colors and accessories make sense as when they are in bigger numbers, they are much more dramatic in the eye-candy zone.

Just me, though. :hmm:

Yeah the US ones tend to look good.

The Allparts ones seem pretty good

But I had a MIM deluxe J that had a really dark guard with no yellow spots.

My MiM Deluxe has some yellow spots though - and in fact it seems to very closely match all the tort I have so far.

The Deluxe PG, BTW, fits the VM-Jazz with the slightest amount of trimming at the VEE.

I've also found out that the Fender replacement 13-hole PG for the 62 J is the same size too. No fitting problems except for the VEE, but only on the VM basses.

I'm not a big fan of tort, but I am a big fan of matching.

Do it.

I even want a 4" x 9" piece for my AEB 10 too. Check my sig::

Everything but my SR500 and my next-for-a-paint-job Precision will be torted then. The P will get the same treatment soon though.

Gack! I've gotta wait 'till next Thursday for my bling pieces for my VM-Jazz and then it'll be as matched as a natural wood bass can be to all the others.
