words most often used incorrectly

This one gets my goat

The quote comes from Invalid Link Removed so I'm comfortable with this interpretation – great book. It's nearly always 'immoral' but, all too often, 'amoral' has usurped it, sometimes in the highest places, and the poor old language flags in its wake.

I'm seeing a lot of 'step foot' these days. Or maybe I said this already and I'm newly offended.
People who say "intensive purposes" for "intents and purposes".
Years later the Literally train isn't slowing down one bit.

Television commentator. No such thing, one who comments is a commentor.
MC. Master of ceremonies. Cannot not be used as a verb, as in- My uncle is MC'ing.

No one ever needs to use Nucular. Nuclear, however...
I thought a commontater was an easily found spud.....
I'm not a native English speaker ... this give me the possibility to state that, in accordance with the Latin origin of the word, the right way of referring to a "commentor" would in fact be "commentator" although, I have to admit, it would sound strange in English

Incorrectly used words often become part of our language. So MC, or EMCEE as a verb are now correct, and in the dictionary, but both started out wrong.
Commentator is just basically wrong, but just by popular of it greatly eclipses correct usage. It's one that even the dictionary gives up on, but just using what you were taught in 3rd. grade- A dictator dictates, a commentor comments, nobody commentates.
As long as no one says nucular we are all good. The fact that grade school teachers are now accepting atrocious grammar as 'He got his point across' shows us that the language is deteriorating into a serious of grunts, and simply pointing at things will soon be our chosen mode of communication.
