So the OP hasn’t been on TB in a year - I wonder how it went for him? I was talking to my local GC manager (who is a friend) and mentioned that my dream job was to work there one day (it just wouldn’t cover all the bills right now if I went full time). He said if I could do four hours a week he’d hire me, and I’m thinking about taking him up on it. Might be good for my son to work there also as he turns 16 at the end of the month. It helps that I do have somewhat of a clue and could help turn their reputation around. Hmmm, I think I should ask for extra $$ for that skill alone.... :

I've been retired from my day job since 2009 which is a wonderful thing by the way. I became good friends with a gentleman who managed a Guitar Center for several years. We were talking one day at a gig and he mentioned that he needed someone part time to cover the drum room. As it turned out I covered the bass room a good bit and also covered guitars when needed. I did it just during the busy season two years in a row. He was a great guy to work for and work with. It was a laid back environment, and an okay part time job. The discounts are helpful and I got to know a lot of area musicians whom I never would have met otherwise. Admittedly, when he decided to change jobs I gave notice. Overall, it was a good experience.

Good luck with your interview. Just please don't "lose your head" and become arrogant and ignorant like most of the staff at my local GC store.

So my first day was yesterday, worked 5:45 until close. It was a blast! The guys there are cool, and I did almost $700 in sales my first day! Helped a couple buy their young son (11-12 y/o) a classical guitar for school, and just before close two guys bought an inexpensive acoustic for each of them. Going to check my schedule (have many irons in the fire) and see when I can come in next.

The biggest pain is learning the POS system (that's Point Of Sale, ahem..) and having to go through all the training videos (of which there are MANY). Overall it was an interesting night. Looking forward to more of them.
