Any tips for a new player on hand stretching and hand strength exercises while not around the bass? Seen a ton of info on the web, wanted to know what more seasoned players do. :bassist:

  2. Never got into this. However, did a lot of scales, arpeggios, etc. using different patterns. 2 and 3 notes per string (nps) and 4nps. Pure 4nps will give you all the hand stretching and hand strength exercises you need -- IMO.

Never did anything away from my instrument. Slow at first and speed will take care of itself.

I never did anything when I was younger, but now I stretch alot before practice and gigs. It really helps me. Stuff like this:

I play. Hand strength is unimportant, other than a general good-health thing. Only playing will make you a better player. Hand squeezers and balls and stretching exercises do nothing for your playing. Play...that's what'll exercise your fingers properly for playing.
