Worlds First Drum Machine in Pedal Form!

My perfect idea is simple...it needs to be as big as it needs to be so you aren't stepping on both switches at the same time, and absolutely no bigger! I think a double switch should be about 3-4"x1.5", not 6"x5". Putting the cable jack in a location where it doesn't increase the "effective size" of the enclosure is also a plus.

Where would you say is the ideal location? Side or back (side opposite player)?

There is a good chance we will actually make this.

Hi David, got one of the first 500 BBs and can't wait to get it to play around with it!

As for a better designed footsitch, I would say the ideal location for a cable would be the side, but leave the buttons unlabeled (as in don't put 1/2 about them) so that it could be used on either side of a pedal. Some pedals have footsitch jacks on the left, some on the right. I would also make it so that the cable was removable, not permanently attached. Just my 2cents!

Hi David Packouz,

BeatBuddy does look very promising! Glad to see Kickstarter is well underway too!.

I was wondering if BeatBuddy will have a feature that I found very valuable in Looper boxes when playing back thru a rig. It's basically an audio ducking feature that makes playing thru the rig sound like it fits in the mix with your playing... BOSS RC-20XL has this feature, and frankly it makes a world of difference when doing that solo, one person gig thing, or just practicing.

Thanks!
Adam

I think I agree with this. Adding the jack on the side probably keeps the overall footprint smaller and a little more flexible. I also would prefer the buttons unlabeled and the overall design symmetric so it could be rotated in various ways without looking weird. Of course, now I'm getting a little picky. :D

I like the top of the box slightly tilted toward the player (like the Hosa and Johnson switches), so you're stomping slightly forward and down, instead of straight down.

Cable jack on the side does make sense. You could put one on both sides to make it "ambidextrous", but since the BeatBuddy switch jack is on the right - one jack on the left of the switch would work for most folks.

My Digitech FS3Xs are sloped and I feel this is a contributing factor to their excess size. So I disagree on those grounds.

If you get much smaller than the Hosa or Johnson switches, I think you might start to compromise stability - especially on a carpeted floor.

Not if properly Velcroed on a pedalboard. It sounds like the Hosa and Johnson switches are already pretty close to what you want; I'm looking for something different.

Good ideas. We'll include that in our design. Thanks!

I would love it if it had good realistic grooves that were programmed by real drummers, not quantized. Also Latin grooves salsa Songo Timba, Guaguanco, Afro Cuban stuff would make me buy it right now.

That's exactly what the BeatBuddy has! Goran, our director of content, plays the beats on a real drum set and MIDI triggers read the beat. We do not quantize the beats.

And yes, of course we will have Latin/World beats -- we live in Miami! :-)

I love it, up here in Northern Idaho I'm in one of the few bands that play lain Jazz/Salsa but unfortunately we cant always bring the full band to every venue, this will be a great alternative.
I am new to this thread, how far along is the development? Is the beat Buddy available to buy right now?

I haven't seen an announcement regarding when it will be available at retailers, but the first production units are supposed to ship to crowdfunding backers in April.

The (fully-funded :hyper:) crowdfunding campaign is Invalid Link Removed if you want to get in on the early-adopter action.

Interesting !
Will I be able to run the computer interface software run on a Linux computer ?

As of now we only have PC and Mac planned. But if enough people ask for Linux, we'll have that too. So get all your Linux friends to order a BeatBuddy ;)

This question has been asked and answers...kinda "danced around" for almost a year now. :hmm:
Go back and read the initial posts and other suff found on the net.

Even on this page...your question and the post before yours were avoided. But post #336 was responded to.
