They're almost the same, a limiter is a compressor.

The main difference is that limiters are fixed, so you can't adjust any parameter on them and just turn them on or off. That's how the one on your head works, limiting the signal going through your amp to a pre-selected level to avoid damage to your amp.

Compressors are more flexible, as you can control compression rate, attack and release. They are more suited to shape your sound rather than limiting your signal.

I use a compressor always on on my board, and the limiter is also on on my amp. The compressor helps me shaping the tone and maintaining it even trough my board, the limiter takes care of the amp avoiding damage to it.

It took a LOT of time for me to determine signal path, real estate allocation (toughest by far), and then making some new cables. I can't imagine with some of the BIG boards! :eek:

Ooooooohhhhh. An Avalon U5. Theres a tone monster. Warm it up!

My board is going through a major rehash. I need 2 more pedals to complete what I want and then the next step would be going MIDI the following month which would also allow me to start using some keyboard stuff I have. I'm not a keyboardist but acquired some equipment that I'd like to bless my keyboard player with to use when we play together to upgrade his Yamaha board he uses. It's limited.

I'm going almost all Source Audio and need to sell some stuff off soon. I picked up a nice 6 looper to get me a little more organized and shorten up my long signal chain that I don't always use a lot of. This will let me tailor some stuff and compartmentalize some tones for fretless and fretted basses.
