Here's what I use. It's about to change though. Getting a micro pog and an iron ether xerograph.

Yea I have noticed the mid cut. I tried to eq it back with a GEB 7 eq but haven't had any luck yet. I think I am running the mid level at 1:00 on the EBS. But I think i need to add more at rehearsal Wednesday night and see how it sounds.

If you refer back to the manual, in order to get a "flat" signal your bass and treble need to be set at 0 and the mids at 10. Start from there and try it out!

We have also done Hosanna. I use a ton of chorus with a pick on this song. I'm normally a finger style player, but the picked 8th/16th not rhythm with chorus sounds really nice.



What really opened up my eyes to creative playing was delay and reverb. It literally changed the way I look at my bass neck. Even if I don't use reverb or delay for a song, I now have voicings and licks that came about as I was messing with my delay or verb. In the end with effects, I ask my self one question. Is what I am doing help the audience engage at a deeper level and point them upward? Effects allow the bass to speak with more emotion than would normally be possible. You can play expressively with clean bass, but there is another dimension possible with effects. Aside from some preamp and compression, my tone is clean 90% of the time. But, when I want to be more emotive, I have tons of options.

Zack. I know you have a Manta and HH3, but remember seeing somewhere you weren't using your HH3 that much.... Have you heard the Dub version of Oceans yet? I heard a version I haven't been able to find on YouTube yet on the radio yesterday and I was driving and thinking wow, that could be pulled off . Dub step videos of Manta settings would totally work for that. I've not thought about this at all and had pretty much thought about not having much use for a Manta for the stuff we are doing but we just added Oceans to our lineup. Any thoughts? Have you heard any of the versions of Oceans? There are several. The one I've heard would have worked the best but ran out of time trying to find it last night before service.

Current setup is running a Zoom MS-60B using the 160Comp and the Bass Para EQ into my Aguilar Tone Hammer DI. AGS is on with the gain at about 8:00. Bass boosted a touch and treble pulled back to 10:30 - 11:00 and the mids are at 2:00 on the Freq and 1:30 on the Level.

And yes... it was Super Bowl weekend... and we did have to eat a lot of crow for the Broncos bit...

Here's my pedalboard setup from two weeks ago. The Crybaby has made its way off, and I have an MXR M89 on the way. :hyper: The church I play at is at least 80% college students, and we have a really young band (oldest member is probably in his mid-30s), so I get to use all of my effects on the regular.

Bass->VP Jr.->Joyo Ultimate Drive->Big Muff->Crybaby Bass->BDDI->Boss LMB-3->EQD Dispatch Master->Radial JDI

The tuner runs from the "tuner out" on my VP Jr., and the board was built by one of our guitarists.

I've cut back a bit more, but I really like it.
I go from the 5th gen iPod Touch into a DI-box that splits into side-fills and mains. The Blueboard is wireless Bluetooth.

It's pretty cool stuff.

Wel, I tried an overdrive but it wasn't what I wanted. I am liking the MXR compressor. That may be a keeper. Problem is my Pedal Train Nano is too small for my tuner, DI and IEM box so I would need a Mini.

Hey Steve...ya know, I've got a Pedaltrain Mini and have been wanting to downsize to a Nano. I'd be up for a swap if you're interested. I will point out that I've got the hooks on the board (not the loop/soft side) which seems to be backwards of most people.

The compressore is my favorite comp, it beat out the mxr, pwnzor, diamond and a list of cheaper ones it can do subtle or squishy, it's not the tone fattening miracle tube machine some people expect, it's a comp and to my ears it actually accentuates the highs and makes the so much more crisp and clear

I like the MXR and it does what it should, I'm just saying that I'm not sure if I really need it. Except for some evening of the B string, my technique is pretty good.

I've been effects free for basically my whole life so I might be trying to hard to add stuff just because I see others doing it.

I agree, it depends on technique and personal preferences or needs. I play in a worship band with just a KB player and singers, so sometimes I need and effect to give some ambience on the song. Some need a little chorus or delay for ambience, others a little over driven sound for emphasis, and I use the tone shaper to carry just one bass instead of two.

The compressor is vital for me, maybe my technique is not so good or is just how I touch the strings, but it's just part of my tone. I have tried several compressors and the MXR does the best job for me, or at least is the one that better fill my needs.
