Worship Bass Pedalboards

It's a killer combo. I have a small 2 button TRS foot switch I can just tag on if I want it, it's just in my gig bag, and that gives me really good access to the Line6 without hurting the carry size at all. Using the Line6 as primarily Amp/cab sims, with a super heavy eq'd button removing most of the treble for really chill sections, an OD/boost, and a Reverb for chording and stuff. I've dropped Comps from most of my patches and am just letting the soundboard deal with that for now. I may revisit.

In all seriousness, I’ve been looking at doing a board that is the HX stomp with an extra dual footswitch and my MXR octave. To me the one effect that hasn’t been done well enough by the modelers is the octaves. I use it often to cheat a low B/Bb/A when needed. The only one I’ve had success with doing that is the MXR BOD.

I’m always tempted when I read how pumped people are with their HX Stomp. I’d be tempted but a couple things hold me back.

1) I need a single mute/tune button.
2) I need an XLR balanced out with lift
3) Nit sure any digital compressor will sound like my LA-1A.

When I play for my church band, I don't have a collection of pedals specifically for worship. If you normally use an effect and it fits then use it. There is no right or wrong pedal for worship.
These "which -insert equipment here- for worship?", threads are becoming just as numerous as the "best for metal" threads.
Play any bass, amp and effect you want, God doesn't care, if you're heart's right that's all that matters. Right?

i totally agree but you might want to avoid certain pedals for your warship board. unless it is the church of satan.:D

1 there is a mute button for tuner, just to program it.
2 outputs are balanced, but you need a short comverter cable to xlr at the other end. Lift thou, could be handy sometimes i agree..
3 i have not tried the la-1a, but found very good compressors in the stomp. And i’m totally fine with what i got there.

I also feel you would need a simple 2-button aux switch to add fsw 4 and 5 for easier access to things in the stomp. So... a bit of stuff to open it up, but still compact and easy to use.

I don't have a Sans Amp, but I love my "dUg" pedal (Tech 21 DP3X). It makes me smile more than any other pedal on my board.

The only problem is, it isn't practical much for worship except on the clean settings or very light chunk and drive, then it is really clean and smooth like a Sansamp, but I already have a great clean tone, so I only really use this pedal when I'm at home jamming with myself very loudly, or when I'm recording myself overdubbing whatever song I'm messing around with at the time for my own playback and enjoyment later, or when my brother is playing drums and I'm jamming with him because he loves King's X tone as much as I do.

I should’ve clarified...the soft case is fine. I would’ve gone the gigbag route, too...if the S-37 wasn’t around kids. Twice, someone has tripped/landed full weight on top of my Roland AX-Edge...but it was in it’s SKB case, so no worries.

I feel you with the octave pedal. I had an OC2 that tracked great, but the timbre of the octave changed drastically between lower notes (7th-10th fret e string) to higher notes (12th fret a string and up). I got an octron2 and I LOVE it. Consistent fat sound and tracks great for me.

What pedals are y'all using for general always on color/grit that reacts well to being pushed? Im trying to find something simple that I can keep low and drive with the clean boost portion of the octron. So far Ive looked into:

TC Spark (full size) - Im not sure that it breaks up quite as much as id like

Phat Phuk B - hard to find good sound samples and the demo from W&C is more the pedal driving an amp

Beta MKII (normal and germ) - just a lot of meh in demos to me. sometimes sounds too farty, sometimes sounds pretty good but not great. might be great in a mix though

Damnation Audio MDB1/2 - not really any good low gain with lots of clean demos, but a lot of people claim it does slight break up well

Locomotive - Sounds great most of the time with pick and fingers. Some demos don't sound the most natural (clean and overdrive sound combined and not tastefully blended together)

I also use the MBD-2 and it is phenomenal. Just a lovely, rich sound across all the gain settings. I highly recommend it for a slightly edgy tone in church.

In my quest to find my perfect overdrive pedal, these are the ones I’ve owned and then sold:
Tech 21 VT Bass

Creation Audio Grizzly

Damnation Audio MBD-2

Many of those were good, but each had at least one thing I didn’t care for (some had multiple). I finally got a Free the Tone Bass Blaster BB-2, and it’s by far the best I’ve ever heard (there’s not even a close second). It’s not too harsh, and doesn’t lose any low-end whatsoever. It’s the most pure sounding, pushed, tube-like overdrive I’ve ever heard in a pedal. It’s the only one I use now. It’s quite expensive, but it’s worth every penny.

Have you tried the Free The Tone Black Vehicle? It seems very appealing to me, though it is apparently quite heavy and obviously expensive. I'm happy with my MBD-2, but I could see myself using the Black Vehicle or Bass Blaster as a first gain stage--a baseline tone--and then kicking in the MBD-2 for second stage on an instrumental, bridge, or big chorus. Or vice versa.

Haven’t tried the Black Vehicle. I bought the MBD-2 a while back because of all the love it (and the MBD-1) gets on TalkBass. But when I tried it, I wasn’t digging it. It had that crunchy, edgy, “cold” distortion that would be well-suited for heavy rock or metal. It wasn’t a warm, pleasing, tube-like overdrive to me, so I returned it. The MBD-2 is definitely a high quality piece of gear, but the tone wasn’t what I was looking for. But it’s all personal preference, and I seem to be in the minority when it comes to the MBD-2.

The FTT Bass Blaster BB-2 is the low-gain, tube-like overdrive sound that I had been looking for, for years. For me, it was the equivalent of a coffee lover (like myself) finding the world’s most perfect cup of coffee. It’s even great on a low B string, which many overdrives I’ve tried were not. If the Bass Blaster didn’t exist, the Creation Audio Grizzly would be my next choice.
