Worship Bass Pedalboards

Random question....is anyone here well versed in the HX Stomp and the native? I'm having an issue I can't seem to find an answer to

I've used the stomp for over a year and just got a Floor that came with Native. I'm no guru, but I've got a bit of skill. What's the conundrum?

As I mentioned in the Worship bassist thread, I finally found a new church, and I'm also getting a chance to play again at this church..

With that said, they're IEM'S only... this is all new to me... the WL already said that he didn't care if I used my own board, vs the house board... I cleared it with the sound guy too.
I just want to be able to hear the sound I like without messing up his mix...

Here's where I'm at...
I absolutely love my Mesa D800 head...
So I figured get a Subway DI... but actually get the "plus" version for the extra EQ capability and the HPF...

is an hpf even used coming from a board only??
I'd couple it with a tuner, obviously, and my Cali 76cb..

OR...

I see so many have the Helix stomp..

I dove into checking it out last night, but as usual, everything is from a guitar standpoint..
The electric guitarist has the huge version that looks like the space shuttle cockpit but it sounded amazing!

I'm considering the Stomp to just have as little as possible...
How is the compression in it??
If it's decent, I could eliminate the extra pedals... plus it would be an added bonus with the available effects, if needed without spending extra for other effects..

How big of a learning curve is there??

Opinions, advice on this, y'all.. my brain is flipping circles. Thanks in advance

I started with the Stomp and used it for a year at church and on gigs. There are a lot of presets available and probably 10 or 15 built in. The built-ins are useless in my opinion. Dr. Tone has a website with free patches that are decent. I build my own a lot as well. Like recently, pretty plain set with a jazz bass. Added a SVT Amp + Cab block, LA2A compressor, scream 808 for a little dirt on the opener. Done. Tweaked the preamp a bit, but not much. If you want to spend 2 - 10 bucks from time time, there are good patches at Worship Tutorials and Alex Stabala guitars site. Yes, it is guitar heavy, but very functional for bass. Just get HX Edit and clear them on you computer. Let me know if you have any specific questions. I've graduated to the full floor as I run a split rig with my Ric and needed more than the stomp could do.

The HX Stomp surprised me more than any piece of equipment I have bought in a long time. I loved it so much that I went ahead and invested in the Helix floor.

The learning curve is there and if you just open the box and dive in I think it can be overwhelming. But there are so many good YouTube videos covering the HX products that if you have a bit of patience I wouldn't worry about it.

I also would recommend to download a few patches as soon as possible. The stock Bass patches do not do the Stomp justice, and seeing how people created their patches really helped me learn to develop my own.

Compression on the Stomp/Helix is good not great in my opinion. But for me, it is good enough that I decided to not add a compressor to the chain to keep the board as small as possible.

Any decent FOH console will have a HPF per channel, but many analog boards will have it set to 100 Hz - a little too high for bass guitar. If that's the case, you may want to take care of the HPF yourself.

FWIW, I got rid of most of my pedals and replaced them with a Stomp, Morningstar MC6 and a Darkglass VMTD on a Nano + board. The learning curve is not bad at all as you do your tweaking on your computer with HX Edit and it is a GUI. I mostly use a patch called Blake Bass (Ampeg/Noble emulation) but have tweaked it with three different versions of the compressor on it - I prefer the LA Studio compressor that is based on the Teletronix LA-2A but the Rochester (Ashley CLX 52 created with Billy Sheehan!) is REALLY nice for more drive. I use the VMTD to add more hair to my tone without increasing the gain...and it sounds SO good!

I have to admit to being a midiot and needed (AND GOT) help using the MC6 to switch between presets. Farcebook has three really helpful groups (Worship Bassists, Morningstar and HX Stomp for Bassists) that got me up an running.

All told, the current setup (including a CIOKS DC7) was more than paid for by selling the analog pedals I had and sounds at least as good. THe other really nice thing was going from a Pedaltrain NOVO 24 with flight case to a NANO+ in a soft case. I can definitely say that my back appreciates the change and that sound guys don't freak out anymore!

if the foh gotta are anything like where i played (trying to pump the bass through the huge sub array and pretty much not at all through the mains) a hpf is absolutely mandatory. don't even use the preamp with it anymore but it somehow "learned" em to not have me fighting the kick drum (last time i played at that church the bass sounded incredible when i played back the live stream.... only problem was the electric guitar being buried in the mix

oh and here's my general purpose bass board (hence the fuzz)

picked up a bass vi awhile ago and I'm gonna be playing that for awhile. never realized how comfortable i was with 4 strings and how afraid i was if the b and e until i got this so I'm gonna make myself uncomfortable until i get comfortable.
the fathom is one i fixed for a guy that i loved so much i ordered my own. should be here before young adults service live stream on Friday morning allows me to step wayyyy into the background when i normally wouldn't be playing and add some atmosphere

This is only my experience because I have a D800 and at one point owned both of the Subway preamp models, I would actually stick with the non Plus model if you feel the D800 EQ section is satisfactory enough for you. Once you throw in the mid frequency adjustment I found that it really made trying to dial something in quickly to be a pain in the butt. I ended up ditching it for the Shift Line Olympic MKIIIs because I fought with it too much. There's something to be said for having a set frequency that you are adjusting instead of having to play the guessing game.

My Desert Island pedal is the Darkglass (original) Vintage Microtubes Deluxe. It is easy to use, does the things I expect and NEVER sounds bad!

Combine that with the HX Stomp and I have the perfect board for my needs (I use a Morningstar MC6 to switch presets).

Looking for something to take the place of the OC-3 for a drive. The TH provides the tube overdrive and so the OC-3 would be my "second stage" so to speak. I don't use octave enough so I'd be looking for something that just provides some heavy grit without low end loss. I would try a micro synth but I don't want to lose the Ethereal. That thing is a spontaneous worship workhorse. I love it for flow moments.

Damnation Audio MBD-2, Darkglass B3K, or Darkglass Alpha-Omicron all immediately come to mind.

Alternatively, you could try a different octave like the MXR Bass Octave Deluxe or Aguilar Octamizer.

MBD-2...your low-end will remain intact! Flexible chain placement, too!
