First time out with the Stomp today. Hooked it and it sounded horrendous. No low end below an A on the E string, and no tone at all above an A octave. Thumping like it was going to pop a speaker cone and just all around bad. Once they flattened the board eq and dialed back the gain and compression a bit it started to open up. By the time rehearsal was over it sounded glorious. Not sure what settings they had on the board when we first got there but sure glad they figured out how to fix it. In the end it was a great success. I have two patches dialed in, one for fingers and one for a pick. No real setting differences between the two but different stomps on the foot switches. I also set up some snapshots (think scenes) for King of Kings that let me turn on and off multiple things with single foot switch presses. I really like this pedal.

I’m still not sold on the HX. So many people use them with great success and love them. Still others seem to struggle. And when I think of all the stuff in it I wouldn’t use, it just seems like overkill. I’d probably have more success with an octave, filter and drive.

I’ve owned Zoom, Helix and now a Boss GT1000 CORE, and I much prefer the Boss. Easier to use than the Stomp, and better sounding than both. It has replaced everything on my board.

I had a Zoom B3n and still have an MS-60b in the closet. They were good but seemed limiting. I have a Boss GT-1B that I pull out for practice but the amp and cab sims are okay but do not blow me away. I seriously went back and forth between the Stomp and the Boss Core. The thing that swayed me now was the community support for bass around the Stomp. I do watch the Core thread and have for a while but it seems to just now be picking up steam. Ultimately I want the plug direct into an amp experience more than the effects. I’m really only using a little bit of chorus sometimes on the Stomp right now. I prefer the drive sound I get for worship when I overdrive the amp sim. The Stomp seems to have more amp and cab options and seemed a better fit for what I was using it for. If you are looking, watch lots of demos and dig into the programming ones as well. This will help you see how things can be combined and such in whatever unit you are looking at. @IvanBassist even has some for the Quad Cortex that sound great but convinced me was more than I needed or wanted to pay. Good luck in the endless quest for “your” tone. :bassist:

Any "multi-effects" unit will have an integration learning curve for sure. It seems like most people that give up on the Stomp isn't because of the quality of sound but more so the barrier of learning the OS.

So I was thinking of getting a Revival Drive Compact as a nice drive for the pedalboard, but since it is designed for guitar, I feel like it might not be the best bang for my buck. What are some nice drive pedals you guys are using? I love me a boutique pedal to flex at... church... oh.

I like the MBD-2 for a separate drive pedal. Mild to wild.

So I need a little clean boost to get my passive Roscoe P bass up to the level of my active Sadowsky 5JJ. I'm liking the Sadowsky a lot so I thought the Sadowsky preamp pedal would be a good choice. I can turn up the volume to match up with the 5JJ and I can get a little EQ magic as well.

Option 1
Nano board with Genzler EQ - keep the Empress Compressor and REDDI

Option 2
Nano board with Q/Strip - no more REDDI, keep the Empress Compressor

Option 3
Nano board with Sadowsky Preamp/DI - no more REDDI, keep the Empress Compressor

Thoughts?

Here's the dilemma (I can't seem to have a decision without one) I face. There is the preamp only version, and there's the DI version. I have my REDDI DI. As much as I love my REDDI, I have thought about slimming my rig down a bit. Do I get the DI version of the Sadowsky and see how much I miss my REDDI. I'll still have my Empress Compressor - which I think might add as much to how I perceive my sound as the REDDI does. I could have everything on my Nano, all powered by my CIOKS DC5.

Or...do I try something like he Tech 21 Q/Strip which has more that the Sadowsky but for less?

Or do I just deal with it for now and keep waiting for the upcoming Begantino preamp/DI pedal?
