Worship Bass Pedalboards

Where did they announce a Bergantino Preamp/Di Pedal, this is interesting!
It's been in development for a while. A couple people on here have been "beta" testing. Everyone is assuming Summer NAMM but there was this response in the thread about it...

In the end I decided Jim's clear reluctance to mention availability coupled with the problems small electronics manufacturers are having with their supply chains (E.G. been wait-listed for a Fractal FM9 for 6 months and it is likely to be many months more) that this isn't going to happen any time soon. Therefore I am finalizing a pedal board with the same functionality.

I may just do the same thing.

Nile Rodgers believes that the best sound for a bass is a DI'd bass. If you love the REDDI, why leave?
Just thinking about getting a little smaller and lighter but you're probably right. The only reason I'm looking is that my passive P bass needs a boost to keep up with my active jazz and not have me changing the input settings on my compressor as that would take too much time. Maybe just a clean boost to kick up the passive signal before it hits the compressor so it's like the active J bass.

Sounds like a perfect use for an HX stomp. You can set up one of the foot switches as an active/passive to adjust levels with a press. This also gives you all those other effects if/when you want them and you still have the excuse to keep the Reddi as there is not a "real" XLR out on the Stomp. You could even keep the Empress in front if you like it better than the available compressors in the Stomp. See how good we are at enabling? :D

I have had this thought. The problem is, to keep to my Nano (which I want to do for a couple reasons, one being practicality as my Pelican case is all set for a Nano/REDDI set up) I have to ditch either my tuner or my Empress. I really like my Empress and I like the tuner so I can have 3 foot switches available on the Stomp.

How often do you tune? There is a two button press to activate the tuner without using a foot switch. Someone here even makes a 3D printed box that sits on top of the Stomp to give you more foot switches keeping a small footprint. We have lots of work arounds. :)

When you design patches using headphones, do they sound ok when played through a big system? I worry about that. You almost have to edit using your computer, right, to really get at everything? Does it run well on a Mac?

I am using a Mac and I build patches for IEMs for church use. If you have good IEMs then why you create at home should sound good through PA. The usual holds true for any pedalboard setting, it will always sound different in a mix vs solo.

As for "getting everything" once you know where the settings are it's easy on the pedal. Like anything, just have to learn the process. Editing individual "pedals" is very easy on the unit if you need to make an adjustment on the fly.

So a question about placement. I have a simple board. Tuner to a compressor to a drive (that I never use) to my REDDI. My P bass could use a little boost and MAYBE a little eq so it isn't as much of a change between it and the Sadowsky active 5JJ. I have a couple options. Use something like a TC Spark Boost with some gain and EQ available. $70. Not too expensive of an experiment. I'd put it before the compressor so it would "hit" it in a similar way that my Sadowsky with the onboard preamp does. Seems logical.

Another option I was kicking around was a Sadoowsky outboard preamp positioned in the same way. The problem is the SPB-2 is not really available, but the SPB-1 (with a DI) is. So I could put it before the compressor and just not use the DI. Or I could put it after the compressor and either use the DI or not.

Another option might be an eq pedal, like the Source Audio programable eq pedal. The gain is saved along with the eq.

My questions is this, how different is it to have the preamp and additional gain AFTER the compressor? In this position I could also use it as my DI and have everything on my Nano board. Kind of appealing if it sounds good. It's supposed to be a good DI. Not sure it can be good enough to displace my REDDI.

Thoughts?

I'm a simple guy. If your compressor is really not coloring much, but really making signal adjustments to help even things out, then I don't think it really matters where in your chain that it goes. I think you could be okay with either direction you list to even things out.

I'm also curious to follow this, because I'm using different pedals to adjust my signal output on my Jazz bass from passive to active and I'm seeing my pedals "flavoring" while boosting. As an example, I can use my Vintage Microtubes to boost with no drive added, but I notice a hair of gain and also more noise come with it as I run the "level" knob up. My Zoom B3 does the best job of boosting without changing as I can use a patch with flat EQ and change the "Local" output of that patch, but I was planning to take that back off my board and put my dUg pedal back on because I just love it. I guess I need a bigger board and another power supply....

For the amount of times I have seen you post about your love for your REDDI, I don't think you should ever consider getting rid of it. You love it and you know it!
