I play through my Sansamp which DI's direct to the desk and I take the parallel out feed to a small amp as a monitor. I occasionally use a bit of chorus which sounds great on some songs, but as I said it's mainly for my own benefit. I used to use a compressor as well but can't be bothered with it now, it's just something else to set up that goes un-noticed.

Yes it's a sad state of affairs but there you go.

Here's an example of our mix from this Sunday. I run a Boss GT1000 CORE straight to a house DI.

Fast forward to 15:50 for start of service. We have a very solid team with the same crew and musicians every week.

Ditto, but they still say the bass is boomy and it is the same with all 3 of us bass players there and all using different bass gear.

Yes I agree about there being no reason for being there if I can't be heard. An interesting story is that one time a couple of years ago at a big event involving the band and choir, I was told by the sound guy that my amp on stage was too loud (it was right in front of me facing me as a monitor), I turned it down as low as I could and it was still too loud. To assist I suggested I did the event with IEM's which worked ok for me but at some point I took the earphones out and played a few notes and there was absolutely NOTHING coming out of the FOH speakers.

After this I had a few discussions with the worship team leaders and did express that I felt it was pointless me being there if I can't be heard. After this things improved for a while but things seem to have gone back that way again lately.

I feel another 'discussion' is on the cards!

We were at pre-service rehearsal a couple of weeks back and half way through, I disappeared completely. I stopped playing, no one noticed, I started strumming the open strings and no-one noticed. At the end of the song I was finally able to yell out, "I can't hear me!" Turns out that the only change was the high pass filters on the desk had been turned down for the bass so only the low notes were coming through. In the end all sounded good. :D (We do have a silent stage - 'cept for the drums!)

I've shut down for the night. Man, 2 hours goes by fast. I had a preset done and forgot to hit save before I turned a knob. :banghead: Didn't take too long to get it set up again. I have a basic Ampeg B15 with compression (kind of like my REDDI and Empress) always on, light drive on button one and a little chorus for button two. Three stays tuner. I'll give that a try on Sunday.

It's a busy couple of weeks for me with concerts and doctor appointments and such, but I hope to have more time to explore. There are a lot of options to look at. Easy to get lost - or just stop hearing differences after a while. Need frequent breaks.

sounds familiar - one of the main reasons I started using a cab sim (replaced with a hpf) was to give them something approximating what a bass cab would kick out.

I once went and looked at the desk and found 0-60hz boosted, and 80-2k cut -30dB - which is why it sounded crazy in our IEM

there used to be a guy called Jon Willis who spent hours playing with his stomp and sharing patches and settings - they are starting places for stuff but worth a look Link Removed
