I really hate hearing that. I really don't want to have to sell off all my analog pedals to fund/ replace with the stomp but my conscience won't allow me to buy one without doing that. (eventually even- I am already tired of balancing gains and lugging a full board even though I like lots of sound options…)

I really hate hearing that. I really don't want to have to sell off all my analog pedals to fund/ replace with the stomp but my conscience won't allow me to buy one without doing that. (eventually even- I am already tired of balancing gains and lugging a full board even though I like lots of sound options…)
I think I could get a Stomp without selling but the point of the Stomp is to downsize:minimize. Can't do that if you keep everything.
I've got my board down to this,
Using it for Church IE's and live through a Boss Katana 210!
The Stomp XL has the foot switches to go between modes. The smaller Stomp doesn't have that ability. As far as I can tell, you have to use the menu buttons to go between modes. The XL has 4 switches AND a tuner switch. The Stomp has 3 switches, one being a tuner. It just seems like if you want to get all you can from the Stomp, you need switches, and almost everyone uses added foot switches with their Stomp, so why not get them built in?
That said, I could also use my Tuner and Rolls IEM box with the Stomp on my Nano board. The tuner frees up a switch on the stomp, and I don't have to worry about the routing for IEM's. I still have the mode switching/preset scrolling issue though.

Yeah, I'm not sure I need all that. I'm not sure I really need what the Stomp has - other than the convenience of an "all in one" unit. I like the whole edit on the touch screen/don't need a computer thing the QC has going for it, but I certainly don't need to capture or have all the in/out/routing options that the QC has.

Mostly that's what interests me- downsizing. I probably was served just fine with my Zoom MS-60b lol. But I DO like the sounds I can get with my pedals. I really only need clean, mild dirt and maybe a synthy tone. But I like the phaser/ chorus type fill I can get. Never used my octave. Not really needed my heavy fuzz either- so digital could work for everything- I think I like the cool factor as much as anything on my board now. The Julia is sweet and looks cool (so does the "Kitty" from sushi. Just don't have or want a big house so downsizing is probably worth a thought.
In my exp It is a lot easier to balance gains on individual pedals with dedicated knobs than individual blocks on the stomp….

I also like the immediacy of being able to change things on the fly. Chorus too fast? Turn a knob. Filter too extreme, turn a knob. Need a little extra drive? Turn a knob and then duck as FOH throws a shoe at your head.

I felt the same way for a very long time before drinking the Kool-Aid and buying a Stomp last month. It really does sound fantastic, and the options are essentially limitless. I am still trying to figure out things like presets and snapshots, which I think would help me take it to the next level, but my free time for knob tweaking is limited at best. It will take me a while to get fully comfortable with all the features that the Stomp has to offer. It's really not as complicated as I thought it would be to change settings on the fly if needed. it is clearly not as simple as just bending over and twisting a knob on an all analog set up. But lugging around a much lighter pedalboard now makes the trade-off worth it in my experience this far. And the quality of the digital amp sims on the Stomp have made a believer out of me. I am able to sell off just about everything else I own because the Stomp gets me 90% or more of the way there.
I used one for years (at church) and it's great - it also was a gateway drug for pedals for me as my sound got "better" I was rationalising it down to the same few blocks I always used, and going out of there having option paralysis ….
I spend my working life staring at screens - so the ability of getting some bits and a soldering iron and making something and adjusting the knobs till it sounds good - and it being good just works for me better.
For electric guitar though I think it works even better and it's hard to beat!
Yeah, it isn't THAT difficult. I made changes on the fly. Hit one of the buttons to get in edit, puch the knob for the device and then make the changes. Not like a knob on a pedal but not that bad once you get used to it. My son is editing his Pod Go like a pro after a weekend with it. He's 13 so there's that.
I hear you. I use the stomp and I did buy a Robbie Pilot to control the screenshots on top of having the two on board + tuner/tap. I realized that I don't really use the extra buttons that much when I play bass since I tend to stick to just a couple of sounds per song. I used to have just the extra two buttons you can easily plug in for free and I think that is more than enough for me. But I guess it depends on what you play
In any case, it's a great box. I think you'll be happy with whatever version you choose.
It is a great box. Honestly, at church all I need is one good bass sound and a couple effects just in case. That's what I have now with Factory Preset 27C. Good solid tone, chorus on 1, light drive on 2 and tuner on 3. For church it's fine. I sometime mix my cover band needs in when talking about this subject. Yesterday's setup. The BB-1X is new to me, I need to play with it some more at home. I'm sure I've read that some use this as more of a tone shaper than an overdrive, and I can see why as it sounds pretty sweet at low level. I think you can also use it as a DI, by plugging a TRS to XLR adapter into the Line Out socket.
I need to tweak the VTDI a little more. We play silent stage / IEMs, so all I want is to get a real nice amp like tone with a touch of hair. I normally have the Blend around noon. I tried it at 3pm and it's a little too scratchy / aggressive even with the Character & Drive settings as they are. I have nearly new Roto round nickels on there, so that no doubt amplifies that. A little too much finger noise for me at these settings.
I've had the VTDI for a while now but still need to sit down and figure out the best combo for the Blend, Character & Drive knobs. I keep the Bite off as that was far too obnoxious for what I need, and the Speaker Sim off too. I like the sound of my CS62 pickups & upgraded wiring loom, so I guess I don't need the Blend too high anyway
