Worship Bass Pedalboards

I've been really conservative with effects lately. Mostly just my Darkglass compressor, OmniCabSim, and Noble DI, and occasionally VMT.

The "sub effects" like the Octavbre and Meatbox or Mantic Hulk aren't getting good results.

I'm now overseeing the entire tech department, so the sound system is my jurisdiction. I've found that it is difficult to get the sound guys to mix the bass to my liking, most either consider bass an afterthought or mix it "so you can feel it and not hear it" (whatever that means, usually jack low end and mutilate the mids - I'm trying to train them differently). Also, our subs are being worked hard, and additionally we have a low metal ceiling which means we trap certain frequencies and the roof rattles sympathetically.

As a result, those rich lows from the sub synth pedals really just wreak havoc on the mix.

If I use them and the sound guy isn't ready, sometimes they'll just pull me out completely out of fear I'll stomp on a pedal

So, these days, to gain their trust I don't uses them much.

Have you tried a SFX MicroThumpinator on your pb? I was skeptical when @ExaltBass was raving about them…finally bought one, and was quite surprised how well it cleaned up the deepest bottom-end clutter. Noticeable improvement for my b-string/synth/sub-octave note definition. Iirc, it's fixed at 31Hz, with a -24dB slope.

You might try placing one where it can affect your DI out (ime, some volunteer church tech's need a 'little help' with the bass signal.)

I had the ampeg before I took a break and the clean side worked well at my church but I never liked the scrambler overdrive just wasn't my taste. Do any of you use the revolt and how do you like it?

I use the Ampeg Scrambler for its clean section. I use my Vintage Microtubes for the yummy drive. If you want a one pedal solution, I'd check out the Sansamp stuff. I watched the video on the Revolt and liked the sound of the clean tone, but didn't like the dirty on it either.

The Aguilar Tone Hammer DI with the AGS engaged is a great tone. Sits in the mix well.

I have the Bass Microsynth and the dUg pedal also for various dirt modes. In worship music, I use the VMT as much or more than any other pedal on my board.

Current setup... should be good for a while. The 1/4" isn't usually there since I'm wireless, but added the ABY switch to bypass the wireless TX pedal if I need to switch to a cable fast if I have any wireless issues. Never had to switch to cables after going fully wireless, but I need to have a backup plan for my bass and IEM's.

Really thinking of ordering those low profile XLR cables from Dave @ExaltBass for both my DI and bassboard. I'd like both pointing down to look clean. Dave, could you make one with a balanced trs 1/4" on the other end? Still thinking... but I'll let you know.

How do you find the Sushi 'Finally' Tube DI? Can't see any reviews / audio samples on YouTube. Probably not cheap to get one to the UK but am interested

You'll have the most luck on the SushiboxFX website. They're made in batches where you can get updates on the website, but he also actively updates and chats on the SushiboxFX thread here on TB!

Looking for suggestions on an overdrive for bass. I don't need anything heavy, just want to add some more texture. Playing a mixture of contemporary praise & worship with the occasional hymn, using compressor + chorus + delay + reverb in various combinations.
