I'm curious...if you have/had a Stomp, and you could only pick one analog pedal to add to the board, what would it be?

100% drive. I think a two stage pedal would be even better like Walrus 385 or any of the Jam drives where you get a built in boost.
I was thinking that the Cog Knightfall 66 would be a good one. It has two drive options.
So, another question would be, what effects are you guys running in the Stomp? I was thinking it would be nice to have something set up with octave, overdrive, fuzz and chorus. Maybe a compressor always on.

It has a decent oc2 clone and some chorus that isn't bad. I don't use drives on it, but they are serviceable. The comps aren't bad but there is no indication on when they trigger so you have to use your ear.
My usual stomp blocks are
Deluxe comp - A really great thickening comp. To me it sounds like the old diamond comp.
Bass Octaver - based on EBS octabass. More of a clean sub octave I combine with drive for micro synth type effect.
70's chorus - settings copied from IMA sig
Studio Pre - settings copied from IMA Sig
I prefer an external compression pedal. Easier to adjust with knobs, than going to menu and blocks on the stomp. I'll adjust the attack and release depending on songs I use a pick on... slap/pull strings... or if I'm looking for more sustain finger style. The Cali76 v2 makes it simple to adjust those settings with one knob (att/rel). I do want to get an analog pedal for dirt/grit gain... and an octave pedal that tracks better than what I get on the stomp. I'm afraid, if start buying analog pedals, It will defeat the purpose of why I bought the stomp in the first place... I've been considering buying analog pedals quite frequently lately, but I would still keep the HX Stomp on the board. I'm not really a minimalist... but I won't be increasing my current pedalboard size either.
I know what you mean. I'm constantly going smaller, then going bigger, etc.
I have a Cali76 and it has been fantastic. But, it's been off my board for a few weeks as I was trying out different configurations. I may put it back on, but I'd also like to explore the comps in the Stomp.
I'm leaning towards the Stomp because there are certain effects that I only use on one or two songs and it would be a lot to fill up my board with everything that I might need. Plus, we don't do those songs all the time. And then there are certain effects that I would like to try out live, like reverbs and delays. I was thinking that having an analog overdrive or fuzz in addition to the Stomp would be a good fit since I use those the most...or at least until I find the right fuzz in the Stomp.
I've been going back and forth for a long time. And then I put the Stomp out of my mind for a while. But, my last service, I had to bring a few extra pedals and put them on the floor. So, I started thinking that it would be nice to have a multi effect on the board.
The HX One would be a good option, but I'd already have to step up to a bigger board to fit anymore pedals, so I might as well go with the bigger box.
Chorus (Line 6 model), sounds better than any pedal chorus I've tried.
Analog Flanger (MXR Flanger), works well with Octaves for synthy moments. Cuts a bit better than chorus.
Auto-Volume Echo (Line 6 original) for simple light swells.
Analog w/Mod (EHX memory man) for light and high backing notes on intros, delicate sections. Tap tempo is nifty.
Glitz Reverb
Bass Octaver, I use two settings. One with 100% clean + 30% -1 octave with 30% filter for big driving sections; the other is 80% -1 octave with 0% filter + 30% dry for synthy deep intros. The Line 6 Bass Octaver tracking is better than any octave pedal I've used. I also use it down stream of drives so as not to upset the overdrive level when engaged. Typically we are supposed to place octavers early in the chain. The Line 6 Bass Octaver doesn't seem to mind where it is placed. Cool.
Synth String (Roland Guitar Synth) has come in handy for synthy intros.
Low High Cut, for a HPF
I've had the Stomp XL now for about a week and I am happy with it so far. Taking it to WT practice tonight and Sunday services for Bass. Will use it there again in a few weeks on Electric. Like any gear it has its limitations, but plenty capable for what I need.
I've had both, but currently own neither. I would take the Core over the HX. Loved the Core, but went back to separate pedals.

Cali76 on the front end and the Deluxe Comp block @ 1:2 ratio at the end of chain is money.
For bass I like to have an OD and the comp out. It sounds like others agree on OD. For comp it's because I'm picky, and I like to have the threshold visual indicator and knobs to adjust on the fly.
Effectrode LA-1A > HX Stomp is awesome. Sushi MORE or Night Owl Edison in front would be great too. Adding some tubes to the Stomp just makes it so much better. I've also used a SBFX Underground Accelerator in the Stomp FX loop with great results. Fed it into a cab sim with HPF and slapped the Deluxe comp at the end with settings similar to what @wolffire99 mentioned....very nice. My current setup is LA-1A > Barber Linden > LBA 2020 > Stomp > LBA TI Box. There aren't too many gigs I can't handle with that setup, especially after you introduce at SA C4 or Panda Future Impact into the FX loop.
I'm sending a huge boosted signal into an LA-1A & then gaining the snot out of the LA-1A as well. I bring everything back down to unity going into an EQ into the Stomp. From the Stomp I feed a Nobelium out to the world. Saturated tube sandwich.
It indeed sounds big, bold, totally clean, with very low noise. I am going to have to rein it in a bit if I want to get more definition, though. A bit too big, perhaps.Nice! Bet that sounds big and buttery
You are spot on with your buttery comment. I named the Nobelium 'Sauce'.
I chose a tube preamp to pair with the Stomp as my one analog pedal to start with. I didn't like the tuner in the Stomp, either but that doesn't count.
I agree that OD/dirt pedals look like a good first choice as well. I'm looking at them too.

Quick update on my worship patch on my Helix Floor. I just dove into the effects (other than compressor) world last year. I got the Helix to be able to do a simplified version of the Getty Lee two paths set up. It's a work in progress but here's my current philosophy and set up.
Running two signal chains (but not stereo). Chain A- pretty much holds down the low end, has a good warm and punchy bass tone.
Chain B- very aggressive low cuts and emphasis on upper frequencies for the effects to maintain clarity
Chain A- Compressor-Octaver-AmpegSVT-ParaEQ
Chain B-Compressor-SansAmp-Chorus-Glitz Reverb- ParaEQ
I've duplicated this same set up for my Musicman Stingray using a GK800 amp block and my Fender P with the SVT. Just have different EQ to fit the two instruments better. I'm soon to get a Jazz bass and will likely duplicate but use the WoodyBlue (Jaco style amp).
I just went through and dialed the patches in using a nice set of studio headphones. I'm pretty happy with the tone I'm getting. But, I'm always open to suggestions to improve! If you see something that seems odd or have any ideas let me know!
